Hi,
From November my mother in law has been for an xray, CT, blood test and PET scan. A letter was then sent to her doctor from her consultant (which she was copied in on) stating they had found lung and liver metastases (secondary) but wasnt sure on the primary and it would be discussed further in a CUP MDT upon results of the liver biopsy.
She then went for a liver biopsy last monday and a lung function test today.
Im just wondering if the biopsy results are likely to be by letter? I still cant believe she hasnt been called in yet to tell her face to face. Is this normal?
Thank you
Hi, I'm a volunteer community champion. Welcome to the community, tho I'm sure you'd rather not be here.
This is a v long time to wait for your mum in law's ultimate diagnosis
Can her GP chase it up pronto, especially now she's had the lung function test?
I would hope the liver biopsy results would be discussed with her face to face, either with a hospital consultant/ oncologist or her GP. Someone needs to go with her to that appointment, to make notes of answers to any questions she/ they may have- so she/ they can look at them later, when the news has time to sink in - or not, as the case may be.
In the meantime, you might want to join the Lung, secondary cancer and Liver, secondary cancer groups where you'll find ppl in a similar situation to your mum in-law.
Do keep us up to date with her results.
Thanks
Hi,
Just an update which is even more frustrating.
The hospital called to say that the liver biopsy hasnt revealed what they were expecting and they now want to do a lung biopsy.
Im taking from this that they are struggling to pinpoint the primary cancer?
Any suggestions welcome.
Thank you
Hi, sorry to hear your frustrating news. Fingers crossed the lung biopsy sheds some light on her diagnosis. It does sound rather as if they still don't know where the primary cancer is, tho I'm not a medic so there could be something I'm missing.
You might want to post about this in "ask a nurse"? Allow 2 working days, for a reply as they are mostly volunteers.
So we got a bit more of an update today after my mother in law went to see her doctor.
He said that biopsy revealed dead tissue. (Not sure exactly what this means).
He is going to chase up for the lung biopsy as she is on a waiting list and he did suggest she may need to have another liver biopsy.
So we are even more confused and in limbo about her possible cancer diagnosis.
Sorry @rosegold you're still in limboland
