Hi everyone!

So tomorrow is my mum's first oncology appt since we found out from the specialists at QEHB that her cancer had spread to her brain and was inoperable.

Does anyone have any recommendations of things I should ask the oncologist? What am I going to need to know in the remaining months/years?

Also, I'm interested to know if anyone on here has experienced secondary brain cancer with a friend/family member, and what the prognosis was?

Thanks all!

H

  • Hi @doglover27, hope the appointment went ok and if you have any questions about what was said I am sure there are people around who could help translate.

We do have a specialist group for secondary brain tumours who might be able to give you some clues but what we often find is everyone is very individual and the most practical thing is to keep a focus more on the here and now. I did a course on living with less stress course to help when I was looking at a really bleak future that so far failed to materialise and we have been living with cancer now for 6 years.

We do have some tips on our Looking after someone with cancer pages that might be helpful to you.

    <<hugs>>

    Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for your reply.

The appt went as well as could be expected I guess, though every time we see a new consultant I seem to come away with more questions than answers lol.

We did find out that mum doesn't have a secondary brain tumor though, it's just that the cancer has eaten its way through her skull and invaded the brain.

The outlook sounds bleak, and they will only do a maximum of 6 cycles of chemo with her. I don't think they think she'll make it to 6 though, it sounds brutal and she's already wiped just from the tumor.

I just wish I knew how long I had left with her.

Thank you for your lovely response, and amazing job on your fight with the big C!
