    Don't Forget About ME...

I am currently working on a play/reading about Jo Spence, the photographer who died of cancer and took photos of her illness. I am working with, who was her close associate on this project.

Out of this I had an idea of making a short film, independent of the project named above, about women, who are or have suffered with the illness, those who  refuse to allow their illness to become who they are, and are tired of being only a cancer victim and nothing else.

I am aware of those who do...

Re: The abrupt end to my Chemo

Quite a lot of people are interested in my "Diary", but when my treatment took an abrupt halt with NO explanation - - - I had no explanation for anything

Well anyway - - 1 week later, to the day, I got an e-mail from my Specialist Nurse Mentor with a full explanation of what would happen now.  She had been away on a course, bless her, and her e-mail covered the situation so fully, that I had no trouble accepting it.

The same day - the Doc that had just turned his back and walked out on...

    Incarcerated
Department of the unexpected... I was feeling fine 10 days after the first chemo session - more energy, and over the immediate toxic effects. Then I felt a trifle unwell on Sunday and followed protocol by getting checked out at the hospital. They found I was neutropenic - no white blood cells, which isn't supposed to happen - so it was straight to an isolation room and intravenous antibiotics. I feel fine. While I'm not exactly sitting here in luxury with a bottle of Chablis, it's a comfortable...

  • Can I help you? can you help me?
Maybe the doctor was right about the emotional stuff - how do i get cancer to stop playing mind games with me?

So here I am, chemo done, radiotherapy due Nov/Dec, Herceptin only for a while and oncologist talking in preventative measures and we think surgery got it all terms.  so i should be ecstatic! except that i am only now thinking 'oh my goodness I had cancer, me, cancer' it is starting to play on my mind.

when i saw my GP for a fit to work at my pace note back in March she said she would be happy to sign me right off because of the enormity of my condition and treatment.  i laughed inside and...

    2nd chemo done :)
My 2nd chemo was delayed 4 days due to my white blood cell count not being high enough but finally got it yesterday. My hand and arm seemed loads colder than last time so they put one of the microwaveable heat pads and that helped so I'll be asking for that at the start next time. Had a bit of an off night last night, awake from about 2am-4am, just completely wide awake and feeling sorry for myself! Took an anti sickness to cover myself and went downstairs for a while but nothing on tv was capturing...

    Emotional month

I have written this just 3 weeks in to being told I have a rare eye cancer which will kill me..I have anything from a few months to hopefully 5 years or so if treatment works well. I will update the period leading up to this entry soon, but felt I wanted to try and hare a very difficult experience with you in the hope it helps. Please comment and ask any questions you may have. I will be with you along your journey if you ever need me. This has taken me a while to write. Firstly I would like to...

Further to "It takes some believing"

Hey gang, I'm still having real problems getting my head around the workings of this website, so it's lucky I've got a bit of time to spare just now.

Yesterday - - nearly a week after I was left in the Interview Room with my jaw hanging down to the floor - - I suddenly got a reply from My Specialist Nurse Mentor - who had been out of town on a Course.  When that girl sits down to answer questions - - she goes the whole hog, and gives detailed information that is easy to understand and...

  • Families - who'd have them?!!
It is getting so difficult now, and I am scared

It has been a long time since my last post, partly because I did not feel I could share, and partly because things have been so hectic.

The first chemotherapy sessions of IV ifosfomide whilst halting the growth of some of the tumours did nothing to prevent new ones growing.  So hubby was given a rest before they decided to try a new trial drug, which was in tablet form called axitinib, which they thought would be more suited to his lifestyle, as he was still working on through the original chemo...

    In quarantine

I am, I guess, in quarantine for ten days or so: thank goodness for e-readers and the Internet.

So far, I think I've been fortunate. I had the docetaxel/cisplatin drips on Thursday - start of the first cycle - and have had no nausea, only hiccups (fixed by a glass of cold milk) and a spot of trapped wind indigestion (fixed with camomile tea).

I was a bit tired for a couple of days, then hit the nastiest part: a couple of nights' bad aching in my hips that nothing would touch except, marginally...
