Well though i just update this blog, the past few weeks have not been fun An unscheduled tumour marker, signalled things were not going in the right direction. And last friday they confirmed the worst, the last cycle of chemo was aborted, A) because they didnt have the stem cells B) because my tumour markers were rising, indicating that the cancer in their opinion was chemo resistant so all chemo would do would reduce the markers for a while, Basically things were in their opinion were not good...

  • Salvage radiotherapy - another journey
Moving on - post RT appt 10 Sept 2014

Saw my medical team on September 10th. Now, 100 days after finishing radiotherapy and 10 days after finishing hormone treatment, my psa is still unreadable. No side effects worth reporting, night time urinary visits steady at 2 to 3, I*m really feeling good. Only need is to exercise more to reduce feeling of fatigue towards mid~afternoon. Daughter had baby girl on 24th August and now in Germany to see grand~daughter in the flesh. Life is very, very good.

    Radiotherapy - Day 29

After having felt pretty similar for the last 3 weeks, after my original early dip, last night saw a decline and a pretty awful night. My tongue has felt much larger during the night and the paracetamols seem to really sting and burn my mouth when I take them. They do seem to be a different brand to the others I had previously but I wouldn't have thought that should make a difference.

I've been taking more Oramorph too and do remember them saying I could up it to 7ml and that you couldn't really...

  • Feeling under the weather.
    Lumpectomy, radiotherapy , then depression.

    Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is keeping ok. It has been a roller coaster year with a sudden diagnosis of DCIS then Lumpectomy then radiotherapy. Felt I handled that ok but now the depression has set in. Absolutely awful at times. Know ive been lucky but sometimes feel like walking to the top of a mountain, sitting there and just enjoying the view. You tend to forget the side effects of your diagnosis as you are so busy getting on with things. Hope any Newbies out there take time to take stock of their...

    Frustration, with DWP
Hi, probably the wrong group, but then can't seem to do anything right at the moment, it all goes wrong. This is just really a moan about working tax credits. I am over 60, Den is by nature incapacitated due to terminal cancer (which I cannot come to term's with), but only now work 20 hours, did do 30. Now I only do 20 hours they are stopping our money. They tell us that as a couple we must work 24 hours, unless I have children (yer right I'm 60). Because Den is incapacitated, (as per their...

  • Dyad's second time around
    A pain in the neck

I finished the radiotherapy on my back by Friday, and came home on Saturday.  The r/t doesn't seem to have affected me, really.  I felt sick on the first day, and fatigued of course, but otherwise it went off without a hitch.  I expected the promised side-effects to kick in from the weekend onwards, but so far nothing at all, not even sore skin.  Maybe this is because I religiously slather on the radiance gel, which is mostly aloe vera.

I've been thinking a lot about pain over the last week or so...

    Radiotherapy- 4 to go

Into the final week. This seemed so far away at the start I can't believe I'm here now.

Had the consultant meeting yesterday and although if lost a tiny bit more weight she said overall she was very pleased with how I've done on the food/weight front and that it's brilliant that I've got through it without a peg. I'm am being moved onto the more concentrated Ensures today though because I'm really loosing the enthusiasm to eat at the moment.

    Consultant thinks I must...

    Radiotherapy/ starting the final week

As I lie here awake having had my 2am Oramorph dose I've been thinking through how I've been feeling over the weekend and trying to understand/ deal with things a little better.

First of all I think I've been a bit in mourning for pre diagnosis me. I watched a video of a holiday with friends and it quite upset me to think ill never be that person again. Partly I suppose physically things will have changed ( and I know over time it should all be less noticeable) but also mentally, I'm always...
