First Docetaxel and Herceptin done and dusted ....
Well after the apprehension of facing Docetaxel for the first time, I am now 10 days down the line. I had a couple of slightly off par days and have a little more nausea and heartburn this time but not too bad. I have also had dried blood in my nose and mouth feels weird but only lasted a day. I have also had my first Herceptin injection so feel I am slowly getting through the treatment plan ticking them off as I go

  • You've had a really bad afternoon haven't you?
Two drains down one to go.

Had my op on the 1st came home on the 3rd am now in bed after doing too much yesterday cos I felt so "sharp" in the morning when I got up. My remaining drain has to be less than 50 mls in 24hrs before it can come out.  Is there any one else out there similar to me. I had to stand my ground to get my immediate reconstruction at the risk of needing radiotherapy and further surgery (L nodal clearance) if the left side "calcifications" come back positive.

    Even this major operation...

  • Today I heard I have a use by date...........
    Shit happens

Hi. I'm Sarah and this is my first attempt at a blog. So please bear with me!

I think I'll start from the beginning.

After a rough 6 months at the beginning of 2013 (constant bleeding and belly pain) I was diagnosed with neauroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix. It's a rare and aggresive type of cancer and it had already spread to my pelvis and lymph glands. I was in for chemo straight away, followed by radiotherapy, more chemo, brachytherapy and finally more chemo.

    By January this...

  • Sublingual Salivary Gland Cancer- my journey
    1 week into Recovery

So I had my last of 30 sessions of radiotherapy a week ago last Friday. The past week has been a bit of a struggle, the worse thing being the sudden onset of the Phlegm monster. I can't believe how many toilet rolls I've got through. I took people's advice and found that the bi-carb mouth rinse seems to be best at getting the stuff out.

For a few days eating ( well drinking ensure) was tough because I didn't want to be swallowing the Phlegm, but it has definitely thinned out now, and...

    The Beginning of the End.
I've decided to write about all of this. To put my thoughts down somewhere. To get them out of my head and onto a screen. Many people have told me that writing is the best form of therapy. I've always enjoyed writing, at school I would dream of being a writer, that dream didn't work out but here I am.
My life has changed so rapidly in the last 18 months. I feel as though I've grown into the adult I should be at this age. From my mental breakdown to the realisation that my Dad wouldn...

  • Enlarged lymph nodes..... Is it back ?
    Not again ?
Enlarged abnormal lymph nodes showed up on a recent MRI in my pelvic area whilst being scanned for hip back and leg pain. GP has requested detailed MRI of pelvic area. Had vulva cancer successfully removed 3 years ago but not like the sound of this. I think the big C could b back. Am I over reacting ???

  • Non Hodgkin Lymphoma - One Careful Owner
    Six Months In

I've been rather quiet lately, mainly because I've managed to get pulled in a million different directions with work, family and the such; people I think we are gaining some routine!

Anyway, we're now a couple of days shy of 6 months of the knowledge that my body is a factory of cell mayhem and it all seems rather far away now despite still being a part of me now. Very odd!

I turned 27 nearly 2 weeks ago and am about to have a 3rd birthday celebration! If you'd told me in April I'd...

Just when you think it is safe to go back in the water...

So - I am now on my fourth cycle of vemurafenib. Side effects are not too bad - mainly feet hurting making it hard to walk and of course the queasy feeling and the tiredness...

Anyway that is not the news today. I checked my nodes at the weekend and found a lump under my right arm pit - where I have not had any occurrences previously. My dermatologist has said I should brace myself for further spread at my next scan on the 9th and my oncologist said not to panic... I wasn't going to panic - I have...

The song of the skylark - and pain in the neck part 2

It's been a while since I wrote one of my reflective blog entries, and I think that's because I haven't been going for the sort of walks that I used to do. This was partly due to the abdominal pain that any walking seemed to cause, and partly because Susie the dog is getting so ancient now that she's happy with a walk down the lane and back again these days. So my old haunts have been off-limits recently. But that changed on Sunday. It was the most beautiful day of this Indian summer. Hubby was involved...
