    Lifejackets

Some days I feel I'm drowning

    sinking way down low.

Some days I feel like giving up

and think I'd like to go.

    But, looking up above me

    I see a gleaming light.

I swim and kick and struggle

and push with all my might.

As I break upon the surface

I gasp and gulp for air.

    I look all around me

    and can't believe what's there.

    Floating on the ocean

as far as I can see

    lots of coloured lifejackets

    waiting just for me.

As soon as I get near one

    they wrap themselves around

    ...

  • It's coming to the end...
    17/03/2010

Today I went to visit my dad in the hospice. He went in Tuesday (16th) morning. After sitting with him a while, me and my mum were called into a side room...here the doctor told us that things are progressing fast & time is limited...I asked if by limited she meant like weeks...and she said it could be even less than that.

So here I am faced with the prospect that, in a matter of days, my dad could be gone from my life...:'-(

  • My breast cancer chemo diary
    Starting on this blog idea...

I am keen to keep a record of my experiences with chemo and treatment for breast cancer.  So introductions...I was diagnosed mid-December last year after finding a lump in November.  Couldn't believe it when the scans and biopsy showed it was cancer though I was suspicious when in my follow up appt from the biopsy I was called for ultrasound and mammagrams again...anyway since then I have had a mastectomy and axillary node clearance.  Sentinal node biopsy came back with 2 of the 3 nodes showing...

  • My Dad's story so far
    The Oncologist

Its been a while since I updated but here we go.

Oncologist was last week , he put it all in black and white .

Hard to hear but not anything we didn't know , said things like " I don't know if giving you chemo will do you any good and I will probably never know"

"We are trying to give you time " etc so was pretty hard on us . We knew it all but there it was , irrefutable in it's cruelty .

    Mesothelioma , time, terminal.

So now we wait for chemo , Dad's had his...

How bad can this 'thing' get!

    Hi Everybody,

Long time again since last Blog and things don't get any better. Having had lots of problems with the Nephrostomy Tube fitted to my Husband's good kidney as he lost the use of the left side one during Chemo, we now face mets to the brain and 5 days of Radio in Liverpool. Also, he has involuntary movements in his arms and legs to the point where a cup of tea can get flung into the air and his legs just crumble underneath him. The Onc. doesn't have an answer for this, but then, they...

    New to all of this....

    Hello,

I'm pretty new to all this, was only diagnosed with thyroid cancer a week ago, so am still feeling a tad shocked about it, but then i go to the other extreme and feel like im a fraud and really shouldn't be getting upset about it. In the 24 hours that followed that fateful day, i found out my best friends grandmother has cancer and it is more than likely to be terminal and one of my work mates wife has terminal cancer. So i started feeling like i had no right to get upset or had any reason...

  • Diagnosis
    The Beast

My mum was diagnosed last November with a primary Brain Tumour, GBM IV, there is no cure. She had some radiotherapy treatment over Christmas with little effect. At some point of this journey we had hoped she could carve a little bit of life out for herself before slipping away, you see she spent nearly 12 years caring for my Dad who has Alzeheimers, she put everything into making sure he was okay. Even when she felt something wasnt right with herself, she made sure she found a good nursing home for...
