16th July 2010 – the day my Dad, the best Dad you could possibly ever wish for, was diagnosed with lung cancer. He said to me he had a small tumour on one of his lungs and he would get through it. Now, 8 months on, Dad has passed away after the cancer laughed at all treatment it was given. First we found out he had lung cancer. Then we found out it had spread to his liver and one of his ribs. Then his chemo didn’t work in the slightest, and it had spread again to his adrenal gland.  Then...

    Nearly halfway through chemo!

Hi all, third chemo next wednesday will be halfway through yeah! I mainly feel really good even though lots of people keep telling be it will get so much worse, not very helpful and obviously we are all different, still make the most of feeling good and doing lots incase things do change. I even love my wig, my hair has thinned but no bald patches yet so hopefully the coldcap is doing its job. My wig is so much easier than my own hair I think I will probably moan more when I have to go back to washing...

  • Hello. An introduction.
    The results are in.....

    ....And its good news.

There has been improvement and is less "fluffy" (surley a technical term ;o) ) there are still areas of high grade tumour that he is now starting Chemo for 5 days every 4 weeks.

And all of his bad symptoms recenlty have been put down to coming off the steriods.

As the Oncolgist said "I can't send you away and say everything will be ok, but I am feeling positive about the out come"

Now he is desperate to go on holiday - which is a whole other story...

    A glimmer of hope

Good news from the consultant last night. Mum is regaining some control of her arm they now think it was due to a bleed?? not the cancer???

When I asked how she knows she stated that if it was the tumor spreading she would not regain control. So they have doubled her steriods to see if that helps. The consultant was very vague as to what caused the bleed as they haven't scanned her. I feel they are just guessing. This sure is a roller coaster ride of many ups and downs. We are now pushing for a...

    My Brave Mum

Hello to anyone reading this. My mum started complaining of shoulder pain in September 2010 it  was stopping her playing golf and it was really getting her down She went to the doctors and was sent to physiotherapy and given steroid injections for tennis elbow. The pain increased and mum looked tired and was sleeping downstairs in a chair. Mum had mentioned a small lump but no-one listened. Finally a family doctor listened and referred her to a specialist she had a biopsy and we were hit with the...

  • If it's not one thing..........
    March 1st

Today has been sunny and quite warm and it's St David's day - so why do I feel like I want to get into bed and stay there?

The reason? the extreme tiredness and joint pain that I have been experiencing since just after christmas, at first I thought it was the post Xmas blues. you know - that January feeling coupled with the continued cold weather, and maybe a touch of SAD, but as we got into February it got worse and worse, so on a routine visit to my GP practise for a smear test I mentioned...

    A week later....

How time flies when you are having daily treatments!

I'm glad to say that when the phone call did come from the Gp (the house was in chaos and my son was on the phone from his holiday in Florida, my next door neighbour had come to see my grandchildren and daughter who had come down for half term) it was to say that the Xray showed a minor chest infection, so she's put me on a course of antibiotics.  Hopefully when I have the scan this Thursday they will have worked and it will be a true reading...

    The fight goes on

Things became very bad last Thursday, as mum deteriorated a great deal she now can't sit up or stand or eat unassisted. It was decided that she should go into the hospice. This is now Monday and she is still awake but hallucinating now and then. She keeps asking why my sister's dog is in the ward??

I have came back to work as sadly life has to go as usual, if things get worse I am closer to the hospice at work than at home. It's her Birthday on Friday so fingers crossed that she's with...
