Changes and choices - my summer of chemo

I know that over the next few months, during this intensive treatment, there will be many ups and downs. I will probably see many changes in myself both emotionally and physically.

I no doubt, will have very 'wobbly' days when I will feel very upset and overwhelmed. I used to feel guilty for feeling this way as I know I have been told that the aim is to 'cure' me and to remain cancer free. I know there are many fellow patients out there who are in a much worse situation with their health and...

4 days post first Taxol session - 1 down, 11 to go

I can't deny that since Thursday, it's been awful. Now I know that the diagnosis and the 2 operations were a breeze compared to what is happening now. On Friday I felt high with energy, I believe it was the steroids, soon to wear off. On Saturday I started feeling slightly feverish, sore throat and aching arms, I was so tired. We were taking my husband  out for a lunch and I know if I mentioned I was unwell, he would not have gone. The girls were looking so much to celebrating Father's Day and his...

    The Journey So Far

    Hello Guys.

First of all I would like to say how helpful I have found the Macmillan community. You are a wealth of useful information and helped to put my mind at ease on a number of occasions.

My partner was diagnosed with stage 3 TC in April. It came as a bit of a shock as he is only 28, but we now know its most common in younger men. I wanted to share our experience in case there are any points covered that may help others.

He had a fairly late diagnosis, having done what far too many people do and...

    And so it begins.....

I have been told today that dad wants to stop working.  I agree he needs to as he is so tired all the time but I know what it means.  It's the start of the end.

    There is no going back.

He will loose his business that he has built and me and my husband will be the only ones bringing in an income.  So stressful is an understatement.  I just don't know what we will do.  I wish so much that he wasn't suffering- but he is.

Dad isn't the sort of person to stop working...

It’s my fifth Fathers’ Day since I lost my dad so the email onslaught from late May telling me dad’s special and I should treat him comes as no surprise now. I swipe left to delete and barely give them a second thought. But now social media has got in on the act with images of gifts infiltrating...

  • My journey
    End of chemo cycle 1

I had my last dose of Capecitabine on Friday and I'm now enjoying my 7 days 'off'' before it starts all over again so I thought I'd pause a minute and take stock of where I am.

Last weekend I attended the Isle of Wight music festival and had a great time watching The Who, Queen and the Stereophonics plus loads of other bands. Even though it had been booked before I was diagnosed I was determined to go. 4 nights under canvas was probably not the most sensible thing I've done and...

  • aww I get it we are one of those families ...
    first post ever

I am not sure if anyone will visit this page , and that is ok. IO want to do this for me and my very dear and nearest. To keep me sane or at least I hope it may . I have spent the last three weeks away from work . To date I have been a passionate and loyal worker who has never taken more than four weeks  off i ( due to a broken bone) in 15 years other than minimal maternity leave with four children. I have never felt the need for it regardless of sleepless nights or feeling a bit rubbish BUT I had...

    Under the bed...

I recently finished the book Tea and Chemo', which I very much enjoyed, and the author, Jackie Buxton, was kind enough to thank me when I tweeted as much.  However she talks about being someone always on the go, busy, active, in control (she is better with her alcohol than I am!) and it is like looking in the mirror- is there a cancer type?

As I finished the book I was also struck by what it all did and must continue to do to the family, our girls were 9 and 12 when I was diagnosed and have...

    How can I cope?

To explain briefly my dad is my father in law.  I lost my biological dad when I was a child o never grew up with one.  I always felt like I would never get a dad and would never be able to experience what that was like.  Then I et my hubby and his dad became my dad.  It's such an overwhelming feeling.  I can't explain how happy they made me.

Just before we got married we found out that dad had cancer we thought it was in the lungs but after tests it started in the kidneys and had...

    Just being me ...

I talk a lot about looks. (wigs/make up etc)  and I know there are many cancer patients out there who feel very strongly about not masking their looks and are angered by people like me talking about looks at a time like this. I am not at all ashamed to have been diagnosed with cancer and I have shared this with all those close to me so I'm not masking cancer but just showing everyone I'm still me. My hair and my make up has always been part of me and defines who I am. I am not trying to hide the...
