I talk a lot about looks. (wigs/make up etc) and I know there are many cancer patients out there who feel very strongly about not masking their looks and are angered by people like me talking about looks at a time like this. I am not at all ashamed to have been diagnosed with cancer and I have shared this with all those close to me so I'm not masking cancer but just showing everyone I'm still me. My hair and my make up has always been part of me and defines who I am. I am not trying to hide the fact I have cancer but perhaps trying to remain positive and to show everyone that I am still little old me, a little poorly for a few months but still me. I'm the type of person who would still put some mascara and lippy on straight after labour. It makes me feel confident and positive. I think this is a good example to show my children too so even though mummy gets very tired and feel sick at times, it's still mummy and it's only for a short while. Looks is nothing in comparable with what is going on right now and I certainly know that treatment is my lifeline to give me a chance of having a long and hopeful future where I will be nagging my husband when I'm old and grey, see my children grow into beautiful young women, perhaps grandchildren I think everyone will feel differently and have their views which I respect but this is my own way of coping and I am learning every day and finding ways to cope that fit with my own family and life.
With the love of my family and my friends (and of course my beloved lippy and mascara and a new 'hairdo'!) I know I'll get through this.
