  • My journey
    Yet another week passes

Still no appointment with my oncologist.

I phoned the specialist nurse on Thursday who informed me nothing was 'on the system' and it takes one to two weeks for an appointment.

Not quite what I was told at my appointment the previous Friday.

I'm finding the waiting incredibly frustrating.

After my initial diagnosis (over a month ago) friends and family are asking 'when is your treatment starting'.

Getting my scans done was very quick and yet now all the information...

  • A carers Journey from diagnosis to acceptance of loss.
    Beginning to end.

I feel perhaps this is not appropriate as I am starting the blog at the end rather than the beginning.

In September 2013 I was happy, just been on a Mediterranean cruise and life seemed fine. One little worry that Ray seemed to have lost a lot of weight but he assured us he was fine.

October he went for a flu jab and I asked him to tell Doctor about the weight loss. He did but it was not followed up.

Then he got a chest infection and this time GP gave forms for blood test and x-Ray.

    Two days later...

  • The Fight of my Life
The battle is over but the war continues

Today's blog is brought to you by the word remission and the number 13.

Sod that superstition nonsense, I've just had a cracking Friday the 13th.

Had always hoped - and in truth always expected - that I'd reach the point of remission, but it's still a fantastic feeling to hear the consultant say those magic words.

It's important to note what remission means, and what it doesn't mean.

The main thing is that it's not saying I'm cured. In fact Mantle Cell Lymphoma...

    Not getting carried away...

I will not get carried away. I will not get carried away. I will not get carried away...

There's no sign of cancer in my large intestine! Woo-hoo!!

Right, that's enough, back to reality please.

Today I got the results from last month's colonoscopy. Regular readers will know it was biopsies from my previous colonoscopy last November which identified the Mantle Cell Lymphoma in the first place, quite unexpectedly.

We'd arranged to meet my consultant at lunchtime...

  • what a pain
    first chemo

First one today 5 to go. So many dos and donts my head was spinning. All the foods I like I'm not allowed! Friday district nurse should give steroid shot, hopefully I will be able to do them

only negative is the cost of parking at the hospital, had five appointments last one tomorrow and already spent £25 in parking. But must say its a small...

    feeling upbeat

I have to say, right from the beginning I have been feeling very upbeat. I do have people who i do not know well giving me encouraging messages, and the low diagnosis has probably helped, coupled with the attitude of the surgeon, ( oh yes we can deal with this, what sort of replacement do you want)  I have considered naming my new  boob, and may do a poll.   Sandra dee/ Sandy, Barbie, and Dolly have come to mind. haha. I think talking about it frankly has really helped.  I have always been quite small...

  • feeling a fraud
    from start to now.

Hello, so many people have posted and blogged about their cancer on here. Many have huge problems,  that seem far more serious than mine. Its a little depressing, and I feel a bit of a fraud to be honest.

I wasn't going to bother, but then I considered that there may be  people out there in the same boat as me, looking for something a little less daunting, so here is my  (rough ) diary and journey, if it helps or encourages just one person then that's it job done :-)

    I've put my thoughts in...
