    Day one chemotherapy

That is the most scared I have been for years!!  We began the journey to the hospital at 9.30am for an 11.00 appointment  Bit better than the 6.30 start on Monday for the portacath to be inserted, but nonetheless after a sleepless night, early enough.

Although I have been through second-hand experience of chemo when my mother was treated some 25 years ago,  this time for my husband, the feeling of overwhelming despair was enormous.  The hospital were great when we arrived but annoyingly we had to wait...

Gettin used to the New Normal (or not)

Finally got internet so can get back on here and chat (oh no, too many words I hear you say) Ha ha I have got a week's worth....!

I love my new house. It is dirty and needs new everything but I love it. What I love best of all is that things work.... those of you that have been reading these tomes all along know that often in Little My's world Mr Sod Law likes to visit and stuff goes wrong at annoying times... well.. without wanting to tempt fate, recently things seem to be going very smoothly...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    September 29th 2011

Yesterday needn't of worried about Mo visiting the Day Centre for the first time she had a lovely time, her words not mine. The ambulance picked her up at 9.45am transferred Mo to a wheelchair but she managed to walk out to the chair. Two people came with the ambulance, the driver & a lady from St Michaels Hospice they were brilliant they put Mo at ease straight away. I got a bit emotional when Mo gave me a wave from the ambulance when they left & off she went. Luckily I had some visitors from the...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    September 28th 2011 (pt2)

Unfortunately I had to go out & do the 'boring' things today, pay the bills and do some grocery shopping couldn't wait in ALL day for Mo's medical equipment to arrive, between 8-5pm isn't 'a time' in my book. Luckily my other neighbour Val said she wasn't going anywhere today and offered to take in the delivery for me. Sue & Brian were away in Essex for a week, the holiday Mo & I were due to go on with them but Mo wasn't well enough, bit of a shame ,never mind, hopefully we will go on the next one...

Dad back home - stopped sutent but will hopefully start again in 2 weeks at lower dose

29.9.11 - dad back at home.  Was told to stop taking sutent (2 days ago) because platelet count low and potassium low. They would like him to have a 2 week break and then will hopefully start back on sutent - prob at the lower dose 37mg (instead of 50mg).  His blood pressure and temperature stablised 2 days ago (but they haven't managed to pinpoint the source of the infection).

Because of lack of dexterity in his arm/hand, he visited occupational therapists in hospital yesterday and they asked...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    September 28th 2011

Mo's off to the Day Therapy Centre today, for the first time. I haven't got any kids myself but I feel like a mum/dad taking their son/daughter to school on 'their first day'. Worried, anxious and emotional, making sure they had everything in their schoolbag, well in Mo's case tissues, water, money & of course fags lol even though youv'e checked their bag a 'million times'. I am a little worried because she's not had a rest after her meds as normal & gone straight out and may get tired soon. I was worried...

  • I never expected that
    It's all coming together

First wave of second hand books have been delivered to the Hall, the pile of cakes is stacking up nicely (lemon drizzlex3, coffee and walnut, carrot cake, gluten free chocolate brownies, pain au chocolat all at this house and more cakes known to be at the neighbours and on their way), flowers for the tables have been collected, balloons and bunting are in the car. It's going to be one hell of a coffee morning!

Publicity has gone well: articles in the MK News on 14 Sept and MK Citizen on the...

    results of ultrasound

the results show are that i do have lumps (lymph nodes) not going to do a biopsy. lumps arent big enough. biggest one is just over 1cm at the minute. got to wait two months to go back, or before then if theres any problems. they wont do a needle biopsy as it wouldnt show or do anything to say if its back or not. he would prefer it to be a whole lymph node, but as its not big enough, he cant do anything yet.

    so yeah watch and wait.

been prescribed stronger painkillers than the ones i have. that...

    Hair today, gone tomorrow?

Well having checked my hair from all angles by using 2 mirrors, I can see that it is so patchy it's going to have to go!

I am wearing a ''buff'' that Pedro donated at the mo, and going out for lunch with mum and Bry in a bit so may try my jersey hat too ... and then borrow some clippers and have to go for it ... oh blimey, kinda looking forward to just getting rid of it and kinda wondering how weird it will be!!

Thankfully temperature is behaving, and had a lovely...

  • How long is a piece of string????
Am I wrong to try this????

    Hi all of you,

Well today has been a rollercoaster of emotions.

The nurses are now in agreement that mum is better of here at home...Why? well Gladys (the nurse) told me today that the speed of mums decline has been so quick that they don't think there is any hope for her now and have asked me to prepare myself, my dad and all the family for what is not too far away. Apparently they think because of her refusal to eat, even with what little I can get down her in intervals it will be her heart that...
