  • After he has gone.......
    14weeks tomorrow
Totally strange week this week. Last weekend I took my youngest daughter to Iceland for a belated 18th birthday present as this year she was totally overlooked for obvious reasons. It was very hard travelling, not that I haven't travelled alone before but the realisation that when I get home I have no one to share my experiences with. That one person who knew me inside out is not here any more. The thought of this has caused me to be very down for the rest of the week. I also have fond myself getting...

    Day 89

Its been a long day at the hospital today, I was out all morning.  It was just one delay after another, starting with a 45min delay for the radio.  Still, myself and the other waiting zappees (yes I know that's not a word) managed to have a long chat - not sure why that happens sometimes, often I'm rather self conscious of my speech and don't join in these things but today I did.  Mostly, as I'd often the case, the others waiting treatment were older with a high percentage of pensioners...

So haven't posted for a while because nothing of note has happened.

Bob the blob is now getting blasted with radio waves. 5 days in and Husband has the tickling sensation on the zapped area of skin of mild sunburn. E45 or similar has helped (thank you Hiloa for suggesting pre radio application). His first appointment ran really late but the following 4 have been close to schedule.

He is trying to work out how many shifts are running as he hasn't had the same team for his sessions twice. He...

    Demystifying Chemo Session

Yesterday evening we went to a very useful session at our local hospital's Macmillan Centre. It was a small informal group of people and their supporters who had started or were about to start chemo. We had interesting discussions with a lead nurse and two experienced chemo patients on all aspects that you worry about: how important is diet?; will the drugs make me really tired?: can I go on holiday? etc, etc.

The emphasis was on how every individual's experience will be different but there...

    Starting off - an initiation

I began chemo on Tuesday 4th June. Intravenous processes take longer than just the main drug, something I hadn't realised before so we (I and my very supportive husband) were in the Day unit for over 3 hours. I accepted the drip into my left hand, not very clever as I'm left handed so had to stick to wobbly lines on a wordsearch book as my main entertainment! Hope I can swap in 3 weeks' time.

It wasn't very comfortable but a heat pad helped and the tingling arm was a surprise but...

    Day 88, Radio 8/33
Well, thats it.  My taste buds are dead, everything tastes the same now - a sort of metallic taste.  I started noticing a few days ago when tea started to taste different, today I tried tea and whilst it was nice enough to have a warm drink, I couldn't have told it was tea without looking.  Another nail in the coffin of my appetite - its a shame, last weekend I did so well eating normal food and I could taste it then, I also noticed my appetite returning well - I still wasn't eating as much...

  • My chemotherapy journey
    Almost through it
    Hi

Today is the first day since Saturday last that I have felt even remotely normal. I still feel a bit nauseaouse and very lethargic. I'll need to have a discussion next time I am at the hospital as this past 5 days has been terrible.

I have a question, as I don't know if anyone actually reads this.

I'm not the let everyone know I'm sick type, and writing this sort of goes against the grain with me. I thought about doing it as I couldn't really find anything that was from someone...

    Day 86 & 87

    Radio 7/33, chemo 2/6

Well I managed to miss a day, well two really, on my diary so I am writing them now.
I've had another chemo session, which is why I missed a couple of days on the diary.  I ended up being rather late back on the chemo day - they really couldn't find a vein to get a line in. They looked for over an hour, warming my arm up to make them stand out a bit but just couldn't find anything. At least they didn't keep trying with the needles, I was spared that. In the end they got a...

    First entry
Hi all, I've been reading all your posts in groups and things and think your all wonderful people. Be it your fighting cancer, caring for someone who has or recently lost someone to cancer your all such inspirations. I have decided to pretty much write a diary on here to help myself but hopefully help others. I'd love to hear from anyone reading this and your experiences etc of living with this relentless disease. My husband is doing relatively well at the moment. He was diagnosed just after...
