  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
    Sessions 17 and 18 - 12 remaining
I'm going to keep this brief because I need to get on with a small physical project 😳 Yesterday was clinic day so I met with my assigned Radiographer and my Oncologist. Onc has spoken with my neurologist, who enlightened him re Multiple Sclerosis. We are fine to continue though I have been advised to lower my Vit D to 4000 IU each day (from 6000). The Neurologist also suggested I see him once in have finished treatment. I was given a prescription for Senna (constipation) and also some dry...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
Session 16 and the weekend before - 14 remaining
This weekend (after session 15) was hard. We went to friends for dinner on Saturday night - a well-planned mid-treatment evening with two really supportive couples who are really helping. The meal itself was perfect .... Nutritionally balanced and able to cool down to toddler temperature (goats cheese tart, salmon fillet with lovely veg, mascarpone ice cream). The friends hosting had bought several different types of fizzy water and so I was able to vary my drinks, just like they were doing....

    One Year

Yesterday was my first mother's day without my Mam. I went to the crem to take some flowers and cried all the way home. It was hard but I survived.

Tommorow is one year since she passed away. Again I will be going to the crem with more flowers. In 25 days I will be back there again. This time to take flowers for my Dad who also passed away one year ago.

The past few days have been up and down. Getting on with things and finding myself crying and not knowing what it was that started me off.

  • Dyad's second time around
    A pheasant's feather

I have to say that I'm discouraged at how slowly I'm recovering from the chest infection of a couple of weeks ago. My breathing is more or less OK now, and my cough has more or less gone, but I'm left with no energy at all and an urgent need to sleep and sleep. It was such a beautiful morning however, that I was determined to get out for a walk and enjoy the burgeoning spring and the warm sunshine. So we set off for a walk around the local lanes. My pace is so slow at present, not like the normal...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
    Session 15 - 15 remaining HALFWAY!
My friend took me to the hospital today as mum is having the weekend off and at home in Yorkshire. I still have double vision and I am still taking regular meds (solpadeine and ibuprofen) plus I continue to carry out good oral hygiene - using Oral Nurse unflavoured toothpaste and pink tablet mouthwash. I have stopped using the irrigator (like a mini jet washer auto floss) as my gums were beginning to bleed due to the water pressure. I then apply Gelclair around the inside of my mouth, reaching...

  • Salvage radiotherapy - another journey
Raditoherapy underway, days 2 and 3/33

    Radiotherapy underway, day 2/33

Similar process to 1/33 but arrived slightly late, 55 minutes before the appointment instead of one hour. Called straight in, and rushed to do the bowel prep. Before the enema had started working, I was told to start drinking my cups of water. Drank three, then rushed off to the toilet. Explained what had happened to one of the radiographers and was asked to drink another three cups. As my hormone tablets were due, took those at the same time. One of the other guys...

  • Salvage radiotherapy - another journey
    Radiotherapy underway, day 1/33

Arrived at UCLH one hour before my appointment, as requested, with my wife, May. Checked in and waited for my name to be called, which didn’t take long. First question: “Have you done your bowel prep?. I hadn’t so into the nearest available toilet to insert the micro enema. Sat on the toilet and waited about 15 minutes. Success! Then taken by a radiographer trainee (Mataz?) who did the usual checks: Name? Date of birth? First line of your address? Passed this stage with flying colours. Explained...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
    Sessions 12,13,14 - 16 remaining

I haven't written for a few days ... mainly because I have developed double vision and I don't really enjoy reading or writing as much. I apologise in advance, because this post is really, really long!

It came as a bit of a shock when I awoke on Tuesday morning with double vision. It can be a symptom of MS and, over a decade ago I did experience several visual disturbances, including double-vision. However, my take on this episode has been slightly different as when I googled (Yep, I know...
