Thinking about an interview, a bite sized conversation, I couldn’t resist the thought from stranger to friend, my gynaecologist and me! I thought about the day I went to the GP…
“So what is your worry?” the good doctor asked,
“A lump, well a bump”, my emotion was masked…
“I wished for a cyst that you might seek there,
It’s cancer I know though, please don’t spoil my hair…”
The history, no mystery, my mother’s sarcoma...
When things go wrong I think about those nights after school, when we boarders would beg to be let out and wet to the core whoop around the garden…
Lets pull on our wellies, it’s looking like snow,
We could run about laughing and no one would know,
There’s chill to the veins but the heart is a glow,
A frost in the wind with a wish…
The giggle inside though your pants are all wet,
The ice angels proud knew we’d never regret,
A wiggle, a skip and we didn’t forget...
Asked to tell my ten years ago self the most challenging, the most rewarding and the most fun thing they could look forward to I am reminded that ten years ago I had cleavage (and here we are!) but now I have far more fun!
The challenge, a tumour developing fast,
An acid predicament, surgery blast,
Though they nearly killed me, the panic has passed,
Quite surely a making of me…
The thing that rewards, my family still care,
I drive round the bend but they wait for me there,
Two daughters...
Well, it's Christmas Eve and another Christmas nearly over, thank goodness. At least we've got the 'run-up to Christmas' behind us now. It seems to go on for ever and ever these days - a month or more when we're expected to be excited, jolly, anticipatory, full of fun etc etc. And now we've entered a fortnight of enforced inactivity because the country practically closes down for what is laughingly called the 'festive' period.
So, do I sound like a Scrooge? And if...
So my poor dad died in pain, scared and with the knowledge that my mam had to face cancer without him and that it could have been caught 6 months earlier if not for someones negligence.
Since my dads death I dont feel like I have been able to grieve for him properly as Im trying to be so strong for my mam and as an only one have got alot to do.
I am astounded by people since all of this has happened, seems like many people remember my dads Omega watch and diamond ring -whats all that about ! Do they...
A few months ago, I wrote rather disparagingly about my first visit to the day hospice. I'm now rather ashamed of that blog post, as it wasn't a fair assessment of what is actually a wonderful service to cancer patients in this area. I have since become a big fan of the day hospice, particularly after my visit there this week.
I was a bit confused at first about what the day hospice actually provides, but it has now become clear to me. They host two or three weekly groups who meet there...

My Mum started chemotherapy last wednesday (5 days ago) for stage 4b cervical cancer. This was an incidental finding following a routine gynae op, she had had no symptoms. She is having 3 different chemo drugs, including Avastin, the others I can't remember. She is on a cycle which runs so she has a day of chemo every three weeks, then will be rescanned.
So after feeling initially well (probably due to the amount of anti sickness and steroids), she is now feeling dreadful, and has actually been...
Hi all I have completed 7 sessions of chemo (4 x EC, 3 x Docetaxel) and have just had a lumpectomy with follow up appointment next Thursday. I am having Herceptin injections every 3 weeks and have just started Letrozole tablets which I will be on for 5 years. After loads of anxiety following the original diagnosis, once I had a grip on things I have been really positive but it just takes one negative comment or careless remark from someone to change my mood and set me back. Does anyone else feel...
