Letter to Onc over waiting till 5th June for Chemo

2 minute read time.

It just seems that as fast as I get one thing sorted, it all goes wrong again. So copy letter sent to Locum Onc.

Dear Doctor ???????
First of all thank you for meeting us last week, and being frank with us. Also thank you for putting a number of items in motion for us, it is much appreciated. It also helped Denise's morale. Portocath booked 5th May, thanks.

Unfortunately, the tissue viability did not really work out, as was passed to the district nurses to deal with. Who have yet to provide a treatment plan. Indeed the district nurse who attended on Monday, placed a secondary dressing on only, no cream, no Metrotop Gel, no barrier cream. So it stuck. Just for clarification, it is only me and the practice nurse who use the Munuka Honey, as the district nurses stated it is "inappropriate". Anyway thanks for trying, not your fault, you did your best for us on that one. That is all we can ask for.

But where we need your help is with the Chemo, this they have booked for Monday 11th May, unfortunately, I am as you will recall away on an advanced First Aid course, in Scotland! With the Royal Navy. So this causes us 2 problems, 1, is transport, but I can get around that one. 2, The other is that I am concerned about Denise being on her own afterwards. There are just the 2 of us.

In light of that, I telephoned Oncology yesterday (Thursday) to see if the date could be changed to a later Tuesday or Friday, (if you recall these are my non working days) from, and including Friday the 15th on, to be told she will have to check with pharmacy. Received a call from Receptionist in the afternoon to be told, Denise either has to have it on Monday 11th May or wait until 5th June.

I am sorry, not yours or receptionist's fault, but I cannot accept this as a reasonable alternative. I know that pharmacy have their own work commitments, but even so, another 24days!

I know that none of this is your fault, it is outside factors. You have as I have said before, done the best you can for Denise. Is there any chance that you could work some Magic here? As you know Denise believes that Chemo will cure her, but as you know, even though there is hope it might, I know what the End Game is. I just do not want to 'Burst her Bubble' as it were.

Please do not think I would hold you to anything, I am not. It is just that I have struggled for so long, to try to get the best for Denise. That not only am I running out of energy, but that some things are just too big for me, to handle on my own.

If you can help in anyway, it would be most appreciated, but if not we thank you for trying. Because I just do not know what to do, least of all is, Burst her Bubble.

What I did not put in the email was, if Dens bloods was not right, they would only postpone for a week. And how can the pharmacy dictate when people will get treatment?
