"I WANT TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH MY FAMILY"
Well, lucky old Ruth Kelly... Today, I finally heard the words I had semi-anticipated: "Stage IV"..."incurable"..."palliative care only"... blah blah blah How about this for irony: 22 years ago I was studying Russian in Minsk, [then] in Russia. I had received a letter from my mother telling me about how my dear 21-year old friend Ian had died from leukemia; I took the day off lessons and spent the morning thinking and sunbathing ON THE ROOF of the student hostel. BAD TIMING: cue hideous cloud...

    Sad Day
How life can change in such a short time! I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 11th Sept 2008 and I am now at home recovering from the op. Up until now I have tried to remain positive and focused... apart from the first few days following being diagnosed.... I fell apart! But today I think the realisation and impact of everyting is finally catching up with me and I am very very emotional. I know i will have days like this and I know that i will beat this but it is hard at times! I have the support...

    Non hodgkins lymphoma
When this dreadful condition returns does it automatically rule out chance of cure? I only ask because last year when mum was diagnosed with non hodgkins lymphoma it was potentially cureable. Now because it has returned 4 months after the end of treatment it is apparently treatable but not cureable. Why so?

Can I see my own scans by email?
My 1st lung doctor let me glimpse at my x-ray to see my tumour (interesting pic of myself) During my bronc if I turned my head and strained my eye’s up I could glimpsed the camera pictures (interesting) The surgeon let me see my pet scan (a good pic of the enemy) And a glimpse of the after surgery x-ray (told picture perfect) I would like to have them on my pc to look at and ponder (is that strange?)

    sometimes life is hard
People tell me I'm a very positive person and I am. Sometimes though its hard. Found out a while ago that my brother has lung cancer with secondary in brain, wasn't offered treatment just mild radiotherapy for brain tumour. The family are still very protective of me because of my bout with this disease and I worry for them because having to go through this once was bad enough without having to do it again. Plus our situations are very different I never once thought I would die where he seems very...

Can anyone give me some reassurance
Painful Bones Hi Everyone, I completed my six courses of TAC chemo five weeks ago and am experiencing the most awful bone pain, mainly in my legs. I can't seem to get the pain under control. I am now going daily to Bath R.U.H. for radiotherapy which is quite exhausting in itself never mind the treatment. I can't sleep at night and don't know how to cope with the pain during the day. My husband works abroad and I have been very proud of myself at having coped on my own up til now, but what with...

New to site and still in shock
Hi My name is Tricia. My husband was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue on 12/06/2008. This was the day our great roller coaster ride started. Kieron has just finished a seven week course of radiotherapy which included two sessions of chemo on 04/09. He is very fatigued which we are lead to believe is quite the norm. When we first were taken on board this journey everything was planned and organised and we just went along with all the hospital visits etc. On 08/09 he attended for a review...

    1st Chemo Session over
Well even my Dad said it wasnt as bad as he thought it would be, despite a fair bit of waiting around the actual chemo process took about an hour, which pleased Dad immensely. Dad being Dad of course wanted to get down to his local for a pint afterwards, guess that'll never change. We spent some of the wait in the Macmillan centre at the hospital which was much more relaxing and less clinical than the chemo waiting room. Such lovely people there too. Can't help wondering what the next few days...

    Dad starts chemo on Monday
Well after 6 weeks of uncertainty and anguish, Dad will finally start chemo on Monday. He is relieved that something is at last moving forward in a positive way. He had a CT scan yesterday so that they have a starting point, he will do 3 cycles of therapy (chemo once a week for 3 weeks then one week off) and they will scan again to see where we are at. I have noticed that he is feeling pain more now, which as I am sure you will understand, worries the hell out of me. Anyway thinking positive...
