    Hi everyone
Hi everyone. Hope somebody can reassure me. My mother has just been diagnosed with bladder cancer and has had a CT scan today and will see the consultant on the 15th to find out if it has spread. My fear is that she has been suffering from what we were told by her GP were urine infections for almost two years now. She was admitted as an emergency on two occasions in May because she was unable to pass urine, but she has just been diagnosed now. Does the fact that she has been unwell for so...

My dad has non small cell lung cancer - adenocarcinoma of the upper left lobe
My dad is 79 and has lung cancer - non small cell - adenocarcinoma of the upper left lobe. He was diagnosed two and half years ago. An operation was not an option as my dad suffers from heart failure. We live in the district of Epping Forest (Essex). He underwent aggressive radiotherapy at Saint Barts Hospital about two years ago. Since then, the tumour has grown back, but as far as we know has not spread anywhere else. Dad was told that chemotherapy was not an option, but his oncologist put him...

    Delays!!!!
Hi Everybody, I was due to have my third chemo yesterday, but my bloods on Monday came back that my white cells were too low to have chemo. My last chemo was delayed because my platelets were too low. I am really disappointed, i just wanted the chemo to be finished by next year, and now it won't. While this is just bad luck, it drives me crazy that i now cant get another chemo appointment for two weeks. They have put me on a list should a cancellation come up, but it worries me that it will...

    The Start of the Road
My Dad went for an Oncology appointment today. He first started with symptoms over two years ago and succesfully had a tumour removed, followed by chemotherapy. Everything seemed to be fine on his check-ups, but recently started being symptomatic. A new tumour site was found, with secondary tumours in liver and bone. It was such a shock to get the news that the cancer had spread. It was so totally unexpected. We were all focusing on the fact that there was a new tumour and then news from the...

    Bowel cancer & internal J-pouch
I have written something previously about the removal of my bowel and having a temporary stoma, but would like anyone's input on how they coped after reversal with the internal J-pouch. Does it cause big problems in terms of being caught short (!!) while out or sleeping ? Does it take long to settle down and be fairly normal. I know that not having a large intestine life will be different and visits to the 'loo' in the beginning will be frequent. But I am worried that I will find it difficult...

    Difficulty Sleeping with Aromasin
Hello All, I have just gone onto taking exemestane (Aromasin) and after a wonderful stressless tamoxifen-free change over period, I'm now finding that one of the side-effects of Aromasin is really affecting me. Insomnia. I seem to sleep for about two hours then wake and toss and turn only to doze for maybe another couple of hours and then start shuffling again - this problem didn't affect me when I was taking tamoxifen (I took it for two years), although I did have other side effects which have...

"I WANT TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH MY FAMILY"
Well, lucky old Ruth Kelly... Today, I finally heard the words I had semi-anticipated: "Stage IV"..."incurable"..."palliative care only"... blah blah blah How about this for irony: 22 years ago I was studying Russian in Minsk, [then] in Russia. I had received a letter from my mother telling me about how my dear 21-year old friend Ian had died from leukemia; I took the day off lessons and spent the morning thinking and sunbathing ON THE ROOF of the student hostel. BAD TIMING: cue hideous cloud...
