The day we've all been dreading

Last tuesday we were told that mums tumors have not reduced in size and that they want to stop all treatment as nothing is working. We're all devastated as all they can do now is manage the symptoms as and when they appear. This is the news that we've all been dreading. Mum has always been focusing on the treatment never thinking about it not being available. She feels abandoned now as if all she can do is wait. We've said she needs to live her life as much as she can now. It's such a difficult time...

    Relief

Well dad went to the hospital and they made the decision for him and took him off the tablets, saved him from agonising over it though.  Although it sounds cruel I am relieved, even in the 2 weeks he has been off the drugs he has changed and is more the man that he was before.  I know it is selfish as he is worried that now nothing is fighting the disease and that must be very frightening.  I can only hope now that he can start to enjoy the things that he has lost and make the most of every moment as...

    Sheer frustration

I have lost complete faith in the NHS.  They was debating whether to send dad home or whether to wait for a bed to become available at the hospice.  They took him off IV fluids the other night and they was to see how he was managing with drinking fluids.  Both his legs have swollen up because the tumour is blocking both lymph nodes now so his legs are massive.  I go in today and speak to the nurse and she tells me he has been taken off the waiting list for the hospice, they wouldnt have told us if I...

    Another hurdle

My Urologist has asked me to have a bone scan as should their be spread to the bones another treatment would be recommended (Chemo)

Well I had the isotope injected  and duly returned for the scan some 3 hrs later. The exam takes 1 hr during which there were dulcet tones played. I nearly dozed off, but suddenly became aware of the music. Yes it was Lloyd Webber "Time to say goodbye" I nearly fell off the couch with laughter as the operative had no idea and could not see through my gallows humour....

    Day 57 Bertiebassetts Return Journey

Well Bert has been home for 10 days now and enjoying being here. He sleeps almost 20 hours a day so I don't really see much of him awake. We have a couple of busy weeks coming up. Monday he has to have an Echocardiogram and Pulmonary Function tests, day off on Tue. Bloods Wednesday. Bone Marrow Aspiration on Thursday, Dentist on Friday. so All of that will tire him out more. I am still on a mouse hunt as it was back again last night. It really is quite cheeky we have 2 spare bedrooms and it...

    MRI and CT Scans today

    Friday 13th November 2009

I had my MRI and CT Scans today at the Lister in Steveange.

Couldn't decide what CD to take, took 3:

    James Taylor's - Greatest Hits
Matchbox Twenty - Exile on Main Street
    Keane - Hopes and Fears

Decided to go with James Taylor, It was quite noisy and hard to hear, should have taken Linkin Park!

Then had the CT scan, worst part was the orange drink, it didn't taste too bad but its a lot to drink when you can't go for a pee.

The CT scan was quite quick...

Well woke up this morning and thought I may have recently given birth...all the mums out there will know what I mean when you ar breast feeding and you suffer from leakage. The side of my body that still has a boob was soaking and the bed, then I realised that the wound site had been leaking during the night (sorry if that is too much info) but not too worried as had appointment to see the wonderful Claire to have it drained today anyway.

So total bed strip and into the bath then off to the hospital...
