    Tim's visit

Ron's son and family have visited for a few days. One of the disadvantages of living so far away is that they have to fly. Fortunately they can get from Liverpool to Limoges which is only an hour away. Tim seems to get bigger every time we see him. At 6' 8" he towers over his father who is a mere 6' 2". As Ron has lost weight and his hair has thinned as a result of the chemo he seems smaller and older. They share a love of trains , large and model, so it was a treat to see them working together on...

Making a crisis or several out of a drama
Are you sitting comfortably, this may take some time. Comfort food, or favourite tipple, or even both at the ready, then I’ll begin. Recovered from treatment overseas, husband is feeling rested and well. Wife dares to suggest a weekend break at a country house hotel an easy drive from home. Husband agrees, the booking is made and off they go. All goes well, and they return home relaxed and happy, replete with good food and wine. So where to journey next? Half term is approaching and arrangements...

    ups and downs

Having a rocky time at the moment, Clive seems to have increasing levels of Calcium in his blood which they are keeping an eye on, and is very short of breath all the time. He has a small pleural effusion which they are trying to treat with antibiotics or steriods. all this is a worry. I have looked it up and it all seems quite common in advanced cancer, i didn't say anything to Clive, but he has now looked himself and  realises time is running out. I do feel quite emotional at the moment.

Why is it that people seem so smug and think that the love of their life will never die?

Why is it , that people seem to think that it can never happen to them, the love of their life will never die.

I was also asked ;why are you still wearing your wedding ring? and isn't it about time you started going on a dating website ?

My Roger is the love of my life , or should i say was, he only died in November 2009, nearly 3 months ago, he was so brave , we were married for nearly 39 years, we had so many plans  for  our retirement, we did everything together, we never went out without kissing...

    Back to work today

I went back to work today after 2 months off, the time has gone so fast.

To ease me back in, I am doing reduced hours for a few weeks.

Before I went in, it was a bit like going to secondary school for the first time, when I got there it was OK.

    Sleeping Pills.. Bad Mornings Lately!!!!!

I have been taken sleeping pills (Zopiclone, Imovane) on and off for 6 years now with no problems, but just lately i find that i have to take more each night due to anxiety and even in the day now to calm myself down.

But my biggest worry is for the last few weeks i wake up virtually on every hour every night all through the night, ie 2am, 3am, 4am, then i finally go off till usually 7am but when i awake i have this immense feeling of fear it is so intense i sit up in bed clutching my duvet crying...

    In denial?

What do you do when a lung cancer patient says he can't understand why his breathing is worse, and why he keeps losing weight, even though he's eating quite well? He knows that there is no more treatment that can be given, but I'm not convinced that he has grasped the fact that his life is limited because the cancer hasn't been cured. He was told that his last Xray was one of the clearest he'd had, and he has interpreted that to mean that the cancer was gone. Sadly that wasn't the case. He's having...

    Monday again!

    Hi all

Well I have spent the weekend reading all I can about bone marrow transplants - partcularly as I will need an unrelated donor due to non existence of siblings. Wish I hadn't bothered - it sounds as much fun as having my eyes burnt out with red hot needles.

Also been practising for hair loss - trying on wig - still think it looks like a wig and also trying different ways to tie scarves and  bought a few from a company on line. What is is the saying - fail to plan then plan to fail!  Hospital...
