Monday 7 August 2017 was the date when I had the "mass" removed from my neck. What a delightful term "mass" is...I remember being in recovery and seeing it in a specimen jar about to be sent of to the path lab. Lovely. I'll spare you the details though.
The following day, when I saw the surgeon, I asked him what he thought. "Lets be honest," I said, "It's not benign is it?" Good old rhetorical questions. He smiled and said, "I don't think so...but we'll know next week." It...
I arrived for my 3rd treatment feeling really positive but when my blood results came back my immunity levels were low (1.4 and shouldn't be lower that 1.5) this apparently is something that can happen. Again I was reassured , I had to avoid infection and wait another week and the levels would probably return to normal. Everything else was at the right level. My hair was starting to come out so I knew that something must be working. Also I had a slight rash on my arm which is another possible side...
I've decided to write a blog about my experience since discovering that I have breast cancer. I apologise for repeating myself but originally I was just going to put one post on the discussion forum. Since then problems have arisen so here goes!
i was diagnosed with secondary progressive MS almost 20 years ago. Since then despite restricted mobility my husband and I have continued to live a full and normal life with our family and friends. After a routine blood test in February I was diagnosed...
Apologies for not writing sooner but as you may be aware there have been issues with writing and accessing blogs. Hopefully this has now been corrected. This is what I wanted to write on July 12th.
I finally met the colorectal team.
They confirmed that I have 2 lesions on my liver. The proposed treatment will be 3 months chemotherapy and then rescan. I had a number of questions.
They didn...
Making decisions has never been one of my strong points...
Anybody who knows me, knows I’m the people pleaser. Every decision I have made for as long as I can remember has always been based around keeping as many people around me as happy as possible even if it meant squishing my own thoughts to the bottom of the pile where they tended to get lost or forgotten amongst the more louder verbal opinions of others.
‘It is true and I’m sure I’m not alone with this but when you are diagnosed with...
Is this the year of lasts......
There have been several poignant moments this year which have lead me to think it will be the last time that I will have that moment. It started actually before this year began and that was at Christmas. I usually find Christmas so difficult as I want everything to be perfect and make myself ill with worry, this time was different; we had an amazing Christmas but I wasn’t stressing and I felt really well. Between Christmas and New Year our friends came up and...
It's been nearly 2 years since we lost Daniel and the pain is just as raw. The funeral has passed and there have been many charity fundraisers in his name since he left, but lately I've been starting to feel as though I need something more with which to remember him. Since I was only a friend I don't really know what the family did with his ashes and it doesn't feel right to ask, but that means that I don't have anywhere I can go when I want to feel close to him.
So I've decided...
So an amazing weekend trip to Chicago to knock off one of my husband's big bucket list items turned into a trip to A&E for me and then some horribly shocking news.
The day after we got back from Chicago I started to get a horrendous pain in my right side. I struggled on for a day and could no longer stand it so I drove myself to A&E at my local hospital ( Note for future...dont drive yourself if you can help it - my poor car was there for days!)
The doctors originally thought...
We all have them, even when we’re fit, healthy people but when you have cancer, the bad days are evil. Having leukaemia has not only invaded my body but my whole life.
At first the bad days were easy to handle.. I could talk my brain into believing that everything was going to be ok.. that there was life after cancer. I honestly, maybe stupidly thought I would get through this and go back to my old life .. my job, my friends, my social life BUT one by one that life was cruelly snatched from...
I have now completed 4 sessions of Radiotherapy at St James in Leeds. What a Unit and what amazing staff. The first session was obviously daunting but the initial consultation was very reassuring. I was reassured about the relaxation on certain products for showering. I had already chosen chemical free and very kind shower gels and shampoo. Also a friend makes her own skin cream which is so pure and has been lovely to apply on my scar.
What has really helped is my volunteer drivers to Leeds. Close...
