My dad was told he has GIST on his pancreas last july and started on imatinib and his scans are showing it’s started to shrink but they couldn’t say how much and how small it needs to be for it to be operated on to be removed
He had no appitite for a long long time then before December he started to eat more but still very little. Is this normal?
Hes deteriorated so much and he’d lost 4 stone since January 18. He’s just skin n bone just upsetting to see. He’s on lots of medication for the pain and this has effected his stool production - constipated a lot and lots of trapped wind - is this normal??
Hes now becoming very weak to walk, very frail and lays in bed all day everyday Again so upsetting to see, he’s 62 years old and was always a happy, energetic, funny man that everyone loves he’s was the only person to be dancing on the dance floor at parties. But now you wouldn’t that at all.
Is anyone been or going through the same symptoms or anyone seeing a loved one going through this too. X
Hi
I am really sorry to hear about your dad. I don’t have direct experience of GIST tumours but can understand how distressing it is to see your dad suffer.
Do you have support to help you? I know that Maggie’s Centres provides great support to family as well as those with cancer.
It would also be worth speaking to the Cancer Nurse Specialist for advice on how to help your dad. Eating can be a real struggle and loss of energy is so distressing.
The groups on this Forum for Family and Friends or Pancreatic Cancer may also give you support from those with more direct experience.
In the meantime sending you positive thoughts and hugs.
xx
Jac
My mother who is 61 has a stage 4 breast cancer takes medication for her pain and she too suffers from similar issues with constipation. My mother is very thin as well and has difficulty eating and she has told me her digestive functions are completely out of sync.
My mother does not have stomach cancer, but it seems cancer in general just takes its toll.
Hello
I’m so sorry about your dad, yes it’s awful how quickly they deteriorate. My mums 61 and has GIST cancer, she has been fighting it for four years, her tumour is inoperable, she hasn’t been on any treatment for 3 months, time is running out. But I really do feel for you, having to go through this, my mum has been messed around by doctors and professionals, had an operation cancelled in the past, and we think, if that operation wasn’t cancelled, they would of been able to remove the tumour, but it’s grown too much now. She is just skin and bone, so frail aswell. It just isn’t fair is it. Xx
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
