Coffee Morning with Macmillan's Online Community

September marks Coffee Morning month! While Macmillan’s official Coffee Morning date is 25 of September, you can take part anytime. It’s a chance to come together, share a cuppa and start talking. Here at the Online Community, we know how important those conversations can be. By sharing experiences, advice and support, members help one another feel listened to and less alone. In this blog, we’ll hear from members about the connections they’ve made and support they’ve received. We’ll show you how you can join conversations in our forums and find your nearest Coffee Morning. Grab a cuppa and let’s celebrate coming together.

Feeling less alone

Many members of our community have found comfort and support through our forums. For some it may be the first time they’ve felt able to open up and talk about their cancer experience. Talking to people who understand can help you feel listened to, supported and less alone.

“This forum has been a lifeline for me because it is a place where I can come when I feel lost and alone”. – Community Member, Bereaved spouses and partners forum.

“Reading all your experiences and taking note of all your tips has helped more than you could know” Community Member, Bladder cancer forum

It does give some comfort that others have ‘been there and done that’ and to know what we are facing is not unique.” – Community Member, Bladder cancer forum

“This community was my daily source of sanity and support - I'm so incredibly grateful for this community and including your advice and guidance too” – Community Member, Anal cancer forum

There are lots of forums and conversations in our community to get involved with. One of these is our Express Yourself forum. This is a space to be creative, share your interests and take some time away from thinking about cancer.

You could share a bake you’ve made, swap a favourite recipe, talk about a hobby or simply share something that makes you smile. It’s a place to express yourself, connect with others and enjoy the things that matter to you.

We have lots of forums tailored to different experiences, where you can share your story, ask questions, or simply express how you're feeling in a supportive environment. You browse our forumsfor cancer types or experiences relevant to you.

Share your experiences

Getting support and connecting with others looks different for everyone.

Support can come from many places, including friends, family, colleagues, or people who’ve been through similar experiences. Sometimes, it can come from unexpected moments too, a quick chat over a cup of tea, a kind message, or simply having someone there to listen.

Our Online Community is another place to connect and find support, whether you’re sharing experiences, asking questions, or simply talking to people who understand. Sometimes, knowing you’re not alone can make all the difference.

We’d love to hear what support and connection look like for you. Who do you turn to when you need support, and has being part of our Online Community helped you feel more connected?
