Hello,

My mother (70 year old) was diagnosed with linitus plastica, had her 4 rounds of chemotherapy and met with the surgical oncologist yesterday. Looking at the PET scan after the chemo the doctor wants to do exploratory laparoscopy and if everything looks well go for total gastrectomy. I have read a mixed response to the procedure and considering her age and presence of RA and vasculitis, we are in a dilemma regarding the outcome of the procedure and quality of life after. The doctor gave us a positive feedback but also cautioned that surgery is not totally curative in this stage. We are in a dilemma regarding what to do. Any feedback is appreciated.

  • Hi, sorry to hear about your mother, a laparoscopy is usually part of the treatment plan, they do have to tell you all the risks involved with any operation but I don’t think they would offer surgery if they didn’t think it plausible, lots of people go on to live quite normal lives, she’s still quite young, please ask any questions on here, good luck
