Hi,
My dad has linitus plasticus stomach cancer, with some nodes affected. Currently stable at last scan but he is having another round of chemo (not sure which one just know its only a weak one once a week) as he had some floating drops that had caused him to get a build up of fluid around his stomach and behind a lung. Anyway he has got a chest infection, Doctor came out and said chest was crackly and fluidy and gave him antibiotics and medicine to help bring the phlegm up. My dad is adamant that he is actually coughing/bringing Fluid or phlegm up from his stomach not his lungs. Can this happen?? He is aware of his own body and we cant feel what he feels but it seems a bit of a stretch to understand what he is saying. his cough is responding to antibiotics but he is missing a week of his chemo (only had 2 rounds so far)
Another question is what sort of scans should he have had to check for spreading. We are under Clatterbridge Hospital although we arent based in the UK so Consultant only visits our island once a week! Dad has had CT scans and chest Xrays, but I am worried they have missed something as he is really not very well. Should he have had an MRI or a PET?
Hi
I'm really sorry to hear how poorly your dad is at the moment and it's completely understandable that you should be worried.
I don't have any experience with this but noticed that your post had gone unanswered. By replying it will push it back to the top of the page where it might be seen by someone who does have the experience you're looking for.
Does your dad allow you to speak to his CNS as she should be your first port of call to find out if further investigations need to be carried out and you can tell her how worried you are about your dad's health.
Alternatively, you could give the Macmillan Support Line a call and speak to one of the specialist cancer nurses. I noticed that you said you're not in the UK so, unfortunately, the call won't be free but you can call them on +44 207 091 2230 between 8am and 8pm daily.
Wishing you and your dad all the best
Hi
my dad has just been diagnosed with this and is constantly retching and coughing up mucus.
did you ever find an answer for this?
thanks
mel
Hi Mel
dad had pneumonia, but doctors failed to tell us! It never really went away unfortunately. It improved a lot though. Recently found out he has some large lymph’s around his throat so they will have been making it harder to swallow and things getting a bit stick and phlemmy
