Hi
My sister is 37 and a single mum, she has a 11 year old son and has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer also in her liver. She has to fight with the consultant to take her seriously that something was terribly wrong even though she has lost a serious amount of weight couldn’t go to the bathroom and severe chest pain. They found it straight away when she had CT scan and has had endoscopy etc I live in Northern Ireland now and she lives in Cumbria so I can’t even go to see her at the moment. I’m trying to reassure her and help her with anything she needs it’s just so awful I can’t stop crying
Hi and welcome to the community though so sorry to hear about your sister, she is lucky to have you.
Your reaction is absolutely normal. You might like to look at Looking after someone with cancer especially the bits around coping with being a carer (even if you are not hands on you definitely care) and who can support you.
You might also like to share with your sister Talking to children and teenagers about cancer,
I can sympathise with some of the battles with consultants - my wife, Janice has suspected cancer for a long time before she was finally diagnosed but with the best will in the world we cannot change the past and at least now she should get the treatment she needs.
Do post on here whenever and someone will try and help you or at least virtually hold your hand because we all understand that from time to time we need a little bit of help.
<<hugs>>
Steve
Hi Steve
She is just trying to take it all in at the moment so I have been trying to research and think about what help and support she will need. She said the consultant is hopeful as she is stage 4 class A but needs further biopsy this week. I don’t know how aggressive or what class the cancer is though supposedly it went from stage 3 to 4 very quickly. I’m terrified she won’t respond well to treatment and with this whole pandemic I won’t get to see her as I now live in Northern Ireland. I’m also worried about her son I know kids are resilient as I have two myself but it’s a lot for a child to deal with.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
