Hello, I’ve only recently joined this group & this is my first post. I guess I left it a bit late to ask fir advice. My darling mum has NSC lung cancer with multiple mets & is devastatingly now at the end of her road. Christmas was not joyous as she deteriorated dreadfully since Xmas day & is now in a hospital bed in her sitting room & has a syringe driver. My sister & I are giving our mum round the clock palliative care at home. There are no local hospice beds & limited care assistance due to Covid. I just wondered if anyone has any advice re dry-mouth, delirium & hallucinations or the end phase & how to cope in general please? Despite being middle-aged women, my sister & I are feeling rather out of our depth & just want our mum to be as comfortable as possible. Any advice would be so gratefully received.
Thanku so much in advance & much love xoxox
Hi ,
So sorry to hear about your mum. Not being anywhere near that stage ourselves sorry there is little personal advice I can offer. Have you tried ringing out helpline 0808 808 0000, it is open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm and there are experts there who may well have suggestions that might help your mother and of course help to comfort you too.
The one thing we discovered when my father was ill was to keep asking because it is all too easy to go from being out of our depth to becoming ill in your own right - and with covid around too that might not be a result anyone needs.
My GP is excellent at looking after me because he knows if I become ill then there can be three patients - me, my wife with Leiomyosarcoma and my son with autism.
<<hugs>>
Steve
