Morning everyone :)
My Dad is starting treatment in the next couple of weeks for oesophageal cancer, he is going to be doing a mix of radiotherapy and chemo for 6 weeks and then surgery, and another round of chemo after. My Dad is a man of very few words, very stoic and stubborn (no, i do not get that from him, how dare you), and I'm just wanting to know what you have all found to help your family members with the side effects and discomfort from chemo. At the moment he can't sleep or eat properly because of the discomfort, and i expect those symptoms will get worse before they get better.
I have been a carer for 12 years so i know what to expect from a healthcare professional point of view to an extent, but it is wildly different being on the other side as the family member wanting to know what i can do to help. Any advice is good advice :)
Thanks xx
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that your dad has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and it's a good idea to try and find out in advance what will help him through chemo and radiotherapy.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you join and post this question in the oesophageal cancer group as there you'll connect directly with others who either have this type of cancer of who are caring for someone who does.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
