Hello all,
My Dad was diagnosed with mouth cancer in May and has already had the mandibulectomy, reconstruction and fibula free flap operation. He is home already less than 2 weeks after the operation which is amazing.
He is such a strong man who has always been active and works pretty much 6 days a week
He is being so brave but I think he is really struggling with still getting to grips with eating and is struggling a lot getting around as his leg is still in a cast
He isn’t one to actively seek help but I want to support him or offer some tools to cope?
Finding words of encouragement aren’t enough at the moment
Thankyou in advance
Hi Svalla ,
sorry to hear about your dad, I can sort of recognise my own who among other things would not use the walking stick the hospital gave him to help with his arthritis. It can be so difficult to accept help or even recognise how much we need it - I was in tears the first time I asked for help.
Sometimes the best help we can give is just to listen and acknowledge what is said without judgement to help the other person find a solution that works for them, knowing someone is there can be such a positive contribution.
<<hugs>>
Steve
