Hi, absolutely gutted to be joining this group but hoping for some support.
My partner, aged 52, was diagnosed with liver and stomach cancer on Wednesday. On Thursday he was told he doesn’t have enough healthy liver tissue left for anything to be done and was referred to the palliative care team. Our world has been shattered and we are all finding it difficult. He has been in immense pain for over a month now with no idea of what was wrong. He eventually took himself to a and e two weeks ago on a Sunday where a blood test revealed he had a problem with his liver. He was sent for a ct scan a week later on the Saturday and further investigations on the Wednesday morning. He received the news by phone Wednesday afternoon.
We are all in total shock and absolutely devastated. We have four children aged 3-12. The older two aged 12 and 10 understand the severity of this situation and are heartbroken but clinging onto any hope. The 7 year old doesn’t quite get it, knows Dadi is poorly but thinks he will get better and the 3 year old has absolutely no idea but understands he is in pain.
We are all clinging to any hope at the moment no matter how small so looking for like minded stories of hope or any support.
Hi and welcome to the community though so sorry to hear about your partner.
Being is shock following a cancer diagnosis is pretty much normal, though having 4 children and coping with everything else especially around covid at the moment must be really tough. His cancer is not really cross consistent with my wife's though if you look at some posts in Kidney cancer forum or even introduce yourself there people might be able to share experiences.
Hopefully the oncology team will get on top of the pain issues as that can make everything worse.
For your children there are a number of resources available here on talking to children and teenagers that might be useful.I know when my wife was first diagnosed I was concerned about resources that talked about cure as her cancer is currently stable but incurable - and we have been living with cancer now for 6 years.
<<hugs>>
Steve
