Hi , im new to all this. My husband was told two weeks ago his cancer is incurable and has not long to live. I’ve been a mess and cried every hour of every day since. I just have no idea how to cope ..five months ago we had not a care in the world
Morning
So sorry to read you have had this bombshell dropped on you both :-/
Although you don't mention which cancer type or secondaries he has, incurable doesn't always mean untreatable so I'm assuming your husband is having treatment of some sort to help with this and pain relief if he needs it ?
Noticed you have joined the Carers Group - 'good move' There is also a Supporting Someone With Incurable Cancer Group here which you could also check out and join if you feel it would be helpful for you at a tough time ? You could copy your question into that group as well.
Hope this is of some help and that you are getting plenty of family and friends supporting you at this worrying time.
Take care, G n' J
I have no idea what types other than bowel cancer having spread to his liver and lungs. We’ve might have been told the name but everything is quite a blur at the moment. He is having chemo to try and Control the cancer
Morning
I'm not surprised this is all a blur, everything happens so quickly and you hope that the next appointment brings better news only to find the goalposts have been moved :-/
Although chemo is tough on the body in a lot of cases it is very good at stabilising and slowing progression down. There are quite a few here who have well outlasted their given date, unfortunately for some the chemotherapy doesn't work as well as hoped but there are many types of chemo they can offer to find the most effective regime. A lot depends on how minor or severe the spread to lungs and liver is.
Don't know how this is affecting you financially, have you checked out any critical illness insurance cover you may have or have got a DS1500 form completed to cut through the red tape to obtain immediate benefits without the usual wait ?
You could use the freephone Macmillan helpline on 0800 808 0000 and speak to either one of the Macmillan Nurses or a member of the Financial Team if you need anything clearing up to help ease some of your worries.
Hope this information is helpful for you both, you must be trying to go through so much 'stuff' without the benefit of having time on your side.
Fingers tightly crossed the chemotherapy has a hugely beneficial impact.
Take care, G n' J
