My dad came out of hospital three weeks ago went in with a pain down one side of his ribs, hospital sent him for scans ect kept him for a week treated him for a infection sent him home, mean while he now can't walk much more than a few feet, now has bed in front room commode had to call in help st likes they informed me he has bowl cancer that's spread to his liver.

The hospital had a meeting about his scans once he was home because they wanted him out asap because of the coronavirus that he didn't have SO THEY NEVER GOT AROUND TO TELLING HIM I only found out because of the St likes notes he's 90 years old and lives on his own, I don't know if I should tell him,

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that you've been told that your dad has bowel cancer which has spread to his liver by someone from your local hospice and you don't think that your dad knows his diagnosis.

It is possible that your dad hasn't yet been informed by his consultant of his diagnosis as his treatment plan hasn't yet been decided. Do you have a contact name and number for the hospital for queries? If so, then it would be best to give them a call before you speak to your dad. If not, then his GP will be aware of his diagnosis and any proposed treatment plan so you could give him/her a call. Whilst they won't be able to discuss your dad's medical history with you, you could explain that your dad isn't aware of his diagnosis and they could then speak to him.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
