Hi folks,
My mum has just been diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer and I'm struggling a bit to get my head around things. My friends have been great offering support and advice but I'm getting overwhelmed and feel like a fraud that people are trying to help me. They've given my mum 6-12 months which seems a bit drastic considering its not stage 4. I'm wondering if anyone can help with info, advice on what I can do to help.
Thank you x
Hi , welcome to the community though sorry to hear about your mum.
Support and advice from friends is great but it can be very overwhelming, it might be worth taking some element of control in this and if you were to say you are getting help from Macmillan in might help them to feel more comfortable that you are taking care of yourself too - you are certainly not a fraud. If might help you (and even them!) to look at our pages Looking after someone with cancer.
In terms of prognosis this can be something of a double edged sword, lots of people outlive a prognosis, some people it almost seems they give-up and die to order and of course a few die early and often from something completely unrelated.
One thing that can help to make well meaning friends who do want to help something to do, if there is one positive in this covid-19 situation at the moment it is the people who are rallying round to support others.
Do post here whenever you feel the need, someone is always listening and remember our helpline 0800 808 0000 is open to all in need.
<<hugs>>
Steve
