My mum passed away in September, exactly 4 months. Ago today. We have since found out that my dad has malignant tumours in his rectum. He is having scans and other procedures to see if it has spread. I am absolutely stunned and really struggling. Dad has lost so much weight in just 2weeks and I can't believe he is having to go through all this so soon after my mum's death. He is not coping at all and I am really worried about his mental health. I don't know what to do.

  • Hi Whitesnake welcome to the forum and I am so very sorry to hear about all that is happening to you life can be very unfair and unjust at times with no rhyme nor reason and hard to comprehend.

Can you speak to the hospital who may be treating your Dad or to his GP about how he is coping as they may be able to help with this. That said it may be difficult to know how much is his grief for the loss of your mum or what has happened for him now. He is most likely to be in absolute shock?

Has he been eating properly or not got much of an appetite it is not uncommon after such a bereavement to not feel much like eating or cooking for one loses its appeal.

Can you pick up the phone and have a chat with the lovely folks at the Macmillan Line as they are trained listeners and have lots of people who may be able to advise or just to offer some moral support at this time. 08088080000

Im sorry not to have been of much help for you but thinking of you all and sending some huge big hugs your way for now.xxxx
