Hi I am a mom of 2 young kids, sister just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer currently living with me and so I’m taking care of her whilst she has surgery and chemo, my stress levels are through the roof whilst keeping everything normal for my kids, how are other people on here coping with the day to day life whilst trying to process this cancer that my sister is going through, any advice or coping strategies very welcome during this difficult time, also not sure if I’m alone with this but being a mom of 2 small kids worrying myself sick if I get cancer now too x

  • Hi , sorry to hear about your sister but bless you for taking care of your sister on top of looking after your two children.

It is easy to feel alone with cancer but here we all understand what you are going through. I ended up doing a living with less stress course with Maggies that helped me to focus on the here and now rather than worry about what might me. We are really lucky in that my wife's cancer responded well to chemotherapy and has been stable now for over six years.

You do not say how old your children are but it might be helpful for you to look at Talking to children and teenagers about cancer.

One thing many carers come to realise is at some point we need to become just a little bit selfish too.

    <<hugs>>
