Hi all. I don't post here often, as it's all fairly new to us as a family. Hubby is due his 3rd cycle of chemo on Monday 23rd. However, the previous 2 have made him so poorly, twice being rushed into hospital, he is so weak and frail he is contemplating not having the final 2 cycles. He has been told that with treatment he has 6 months, give or take a month or two. Hubby is 75 and feels he wants quality of life as opposed to quantity for however long we have together. I respect his thoughts, but can't help but wonder if it's the right thing to do? Indeed what to expect if treatment ceases. He has Grade 4 lung and brain tumour? Any thoughts?
Hi
i thought I’d reply as I’m sort of in the same boat. My daughter has also decided enough after 1 session of her third round of chemo which made her so poorly again. There’s a really fine line between length of life and quality of life and it’s so difficult to know if stopping means that they’ll have a season of ‘normality’ or whether the cancer will run rampant and make the last part of the journey more uncomfortable. In my daughters case she’s having a lot more pain meaning lots more morphine (patches and self administered injections) but in between she’s living her life, seeing friends, eating out etc.
I think she was very courageous to make that decision and I’m sure your husband wants to have his time left without the horrendous side effects that chemo seems to bring on some of our loved ones. Hopefully you can make the most of it together.
Hugs Marion
