Hi everyone. My lovely Dad is currently fighting cancer (again) and we are not sure what the future holds at this stage.
It's his Birthday in a few weeks. He's 72 but is totally fit at the moment, he is a drummer in a rock band, enjoys walks and cycles! However he starts chemo this week so I imagine things will change quite quickly. If all goes to plan he'll be having major surgery in October.
Since my Mum passed away, my Brother and I usually buy him a Birthday gift of something to do together (gigs, musicals, weekend breaks), making memories became so much more important than gadgets and gizmos!
I'm hoping someone can inspire me with Birthday gift ideas?! I'm really struggling to think of something special, without planning too far ahead or planning something that he won't/can't enjoy due to his health. It doesn't have to be something to do, an actual gift to unwrap would be fine too but I have no idea what!
All ideas welcome!
Hi Michelle
Hard isn't it - not advisable to go anywhere with crowds such as gigs, theatre etc on chemo due to germs and lowered immunity.
I've seen some really lovely framed song lyrics on-line - might be an idea? or a chunky mens' bracelet, leather or woven? Maybe 'vouchers' for things like a picnic in the park, a boat trip on the river, a cocktail evening - then you can just do them as and when weather/opportunity/fitness permits.
All the best - you sound like a lovely daughter
Zoe
Hi
My mum was 70 in April so I know what you mean. She is also relatively fit and healthy although it does fluctuate depending on where she is with her treatment cycle.
I bought her an experience of a gin making session where we made our own unique gin (very small group) and transported via a executive limo and chauffeur for the day. We both loved it and have a great memory.
As your dad is in to his music what about paying for him to record a session on the drums either sole or with a band perhaps? I know you can book recording studios and you will end up with some great music! He could be a rock star for a day!
Best wishes
Guitar hero with drums. Maybe on eBay hun x that way your dad can sit and rest while beating the drums
Hi Zoe,
Thank you and Sorry for the late reply, I never got a notification of a reply so I missed it!
We opted for a new ipod, it has been great for him during his chemo and admissions!
