My dad has terminal bladder cancer. He's detoriated rapidly this last week, hes constantly asleep and struggles to get out of bed. Hes stopped eating and now wont take drinks.
How long can he live like this?
HI Kevan
I have come on today to ask the same question. My Dad is in a nursing home with a brain tumor. For the last month or so he has taken to bed instead of socializing in his wheel chair. During this time has been only taking about 5 tsp of readybreak and max 400ml fluid a day, but more like 200ml.
I went away for easter, then couldn't see him as i had a chest infection for a week. He in very ill now. I witnessed him having small seizures lasting approx 20sec every 30mins. He is now on a syringe driver to constantly deliver his anti consultants - He is more comfortable now non verbal but I think he knows i'm there as his face relaxes when i stroke his hair and hold his hand.
He is only taking a lip sponge worth of water a few times a day, i guess it will be any day now?
Kevan, thinking of you x
Thanks, hes still taking small amounts of fluids at moment. Its annoying as when he dies I get two weeks off work , work have been good but I want to spend time with him now. Nobody knows for sure how long and trying to balance work is hard
Best wishes to you as well
I'm in a lucky/unlucky position in that work sacked me end of march (blamed on poor performance they say possibly due to me bringing home life to work...that's another story)
Would your work be open to giving you say week now week later? Or would your GP sign you off?
Thinking of you. Have a cyber hug
Thanks, playing it be ear at the moment . He seemed better yesterday but that was because he had morphine for the first time . Hes back to being in bed and seems more confused today
Yup me to with my Dad. They also introduced morphine into his syringe driver pump thing today.
