Hi everyone
my Nan who will be 90 this July was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in November 2018 which came as a massive shock she has 4 sons no daughters all grandson and just me her only girl my family have decided to keep the news from her as the worry they think will shorten her life my nan was doing perfectly well but the last few weeks she has stopped eating but drinks fluids and ensure meal replacement last couple of days she’s been really tired and is letting her pride and dignity and relying on her sons to dress and undress her she had a fall yesterday which has taken all her confidence away my uncles are very difficult at the moment to talk to is there help she can get at home without the mention of cancer? I’m really struggling today dealing with it I feel pain in my heart and stomach when I think about her at home alone I’m afraid to do or say anything as I don’t know what’s right from wrong
Thank you for reading x
Hi , welcome to the community though sorry to hear about your nan. It sounds like she is fairly together and so it would be likely the oncoly team will have talked to her. Was she hurt in the fall?
Normally she would be entitled to a needs assesment from the local authority but this would be something she would need to wnt, in the mentime you might like to talk to someone here about how you feel.
<<hugs>>
Steve
