Hi all,
My friend and housemate has been through the radio- and chemotherapy stages of treatment, where he was prescribed max-strength morphine patches, and told he could take extra oramorph if he needed it. He seemed to get through that pretty well to be honest.
Since then he's been for a PET/FDG/CT scan, which pretty much came out as good as could be, and his morphine patches have been halved. Now he's been hitting the Xanax, washed down with vodka, to replace it, and basically been a nightmare to live with. Sleep patterns all over the place, awake all night, staying awake for 20+ hours a day, etc.
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to slowly come down from the morphine use to normality. He's a stubborn person, who will do the opposite of anything you tell him :-)
Any tips gratefully received. It's got to a state where I can't get any sleep at night because of his sleep patterns, so it's messing up my life (and that of my partner) as well. Is it just a matter of riding it out ?
Thanks,
Hi and welcome to the community though sorry to hear about what you are going through, it does sound very difficult but totally outside my range of experiences, my wife would seem to be intolerant of oramorph and that does cause it's own problems,
It might be simplest to use our Ask a Nurse where one of our professional staff will be able to give some more experienced advice.
<<hugs>>
