Hi..... I feel sick drained..spaced out overwhelmed .surrounded by grieving family..feeling lonely..has anyone been through this or going through it?? My dad is being brave and looks well right now X
Hi welcome to the community though so sorry to hear about your dad, My dad had a long term illness that robbed us of him bit by bit so I can relate to where you are. Sometimes people talk about pre-grief and it is really fairly common for people to say how the person with the cancer looks well and is being brave.
Any cancer diagnosis is a shock and then the choices over treatment and quality of life can be really challenging. As family people often worry about what to say and many patients say I just want to be treated normally.- it can be a real challenge. It might help to look through I'm looking after someone with cancer especially the dealing with your own emotions.
<<hugs>>
Steve
Hi
I’m sorry to hear about your Dad’s diagnosis. My Mum was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour last Autumn. I can relate to the feelings you describe, it was such a shock out of the blue to us all, as my Mum has always been so healthy and well.
There are lots of helpful resources on this site but also on the Brain Tumour Charity website, including for carers of people with Brain tumours, that I would recommend. I have found talking to others and share my feelings has been hugely helpful.
My biggest advice would be to just take one day at a time - this is hard to do, but I feel most overwhelmed when I think to too far ahead about what might/could/should happen.
I try to focus on enjoying the time now with my Mum, I don’t avoid talking about it, but we don’t let it become the centre of everything.
Look after yourself xx
