Hi everyone. My dad has been diagnosed with liver cancer approx 3 weeks ago. He is 88 and I am an only child and currently living 250 miles away so not sure what is going on. He seems to be receiving palliative care only as he has no correspondence from an oncologist or other surgeons regarding treatment. Totally confused and have no idea what is going on. Can anyone give me some advice please. Thank you. T

    Hi tsb2556

I'm sorry to read about your dad, it must be doubly hard living such a distance away from him too.

My advice firstly would be to get your dad to sign a letter to his  GP giving  permission for his doctors - to speak to you about him. From there you might be able to move forward to any palliative care team that is involved in his care and gain a bit more information.

    I hope that's helpful.

    Take care. X

  • Hi , I'm sorry to hear about your dad. How awful for you being so far away. Try contacting the GP and ask for him (if it hasn't already been done) to refer your dad to the local hospice. There is a lot of support available once the referral has been received also, see if you can find out if he has a named specialist nurse, most do and they are very supportive. You could try calling the Helpline for more advice, they are there 7 days a week 8am to 8pm and there's also the Carers Trust, if you explain how far away you are they might come up with some suggestions. Good luck,

    Love and hugs,

If you find dust in my house, write your name in it. When the signatures overlap I'll get the polish.
