Hi, I have just signed up. I need help!
My mom has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is deteriorating rapidly - so quickly she has gone down hill.
I have never cared for anyone before, and I am struggling to keep on top of all the meds she takes, both for non cancer related medication and for the pain medication. I also need to keep a track of what she is eating and when we have given her the insulin doses across the day. I also have my dad looking after her so its not just me that needs to be aware of what we have given her.
Can anyone signpost me (as at the moment, I am too exhausted to search for anything :( ) to a useful template that I can edit and fill in all the meds she takes and then track what she has across the day, including the 'as needed' meds. thank you.
Hi Nicd
My dad used to use one of the weekly pill boxes like these I say on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=pill+box+week&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313
Not so helpful for the as needed option though.
I wonder if you asked on our Ask a Nurse thread if there was anything they might be able to suggest.
<<hugs>>
Steve
Hi Nicd
firstly I’m so sorry to hear this Pancreatic cancer is absolutely horrible, it’s devastating to see a loved one go through this.
I use a spreadsheet to track and monitor medication for my partner (he has Glioblastoma), it’s just one I made on excel but I’d be happy to send you a template version?
It’s in a chart format & it has each day of the week with a list of the medication & dose / time of day & you can just tick them off as you go so easy to keep track of what has been taken. I’ve also got one med which my partner has “as and when needed” which I’ve put at the bottom of the chart so if there are any meds that are a bit more ad-hoc you could do something similar and write in that box what time they had that on the day etc, let me know if this might be useful?
Hi Nicd
We use a pill box similar to the one shared by src60 for all regular meds. Some don't have the day written on the day segments/strip themselves - I highly recommend getting the sharpie out and writing the day on!
(And we have a separate ongoing notes on iphone for regular meds and med changes.)
For 'as and when' meds and food / toilets / activities we use a page a day diary. (We use this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D3ZW8MCF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title but plenty of other options.)
I'm also a new and sudden carer; at the moment my husband is able to lead his med prep (though he sometimes needs reminding to take things/re-order etc) and owns the diary writing (again with reminders); it's day by day, sometime hour by hour learning for sure!
Hope you find a system that works for you x
