My husband has metastatic prostate cancer in his spinal cord, bones and lymph nodes. He also has heart failure and lymphoedema in his legs. He can’t walk and has a catheter and needs the commode or bedpan three to four times a day. We have paid carers twice a day. He has physiotherapy twice a week at the moment.
I am struggling to cope after living with this situation for 18 months now. How do other carers cope, shape their day and if possible hold on to some control and predictability in your lives. My husband is very demanding of my time and attention between the two care visits we have. We have to pay for his care and he won’t agree to any more visits because he worries about money.
I don’t know for how longer I can cope looking after him. His adult children can’t deal with the situation and have run to the hills.
I be really pleased to hear from others who deal the day to care of someone with a cancer diagnosis that had rendered them immobile.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
