James home today after his radiotherapy woohoo looks and feels better away to his gf for the nite xx
Following a good few weeks of tests, scans, results, chats etc treatment plan was laid out. Two or three five day courses of chemo as an in-patient before starting a five day a week, seven week course of radiotherapy with a few one day stays for further chemo thrown in, a PEG tube, plus sessions with a speech therapist to excercise my tongue (wife not too keen on me exercising elsewhere but understands) ;) Visit for dental assesment-need to lose four not so pearly whites.

Right here's the meaty part....
I have just come home for the summer as I finally have a break in between my second and third year of nursing, which I tell you is a rariety!! So I decided to spend some time with my family because they mean the world to me.
I think I had suspected something wrong with my mother for quite some time, but in all honesty I was in denial and quite frankly I always thought my mum would trust me with something this big!! After all even though it took her a few days...
To begin I would like to breifly explain my family. I have a mum and dad and an older sister who is two years older. I am currently 20 years old and in my third year of nursing at Southampton.
My family has always been 'different' to put it mildly, you know some families just talk about everything, hug each other and say they love each other... well my family is the complete opposite. As far as I remember my parents have never told me directly that they love me, I know they do but it would just...
I feel like we are just treading water now.
I can't make plans for anything more than a couple of weeks ahead, because I don't know if we would be able to carry them out. Our daughter is singing with something for school and we need to buy tickets, do I or don't I get tickets. How quickly will David deteriate.
David thinks we should get a starlift, but I don't know if we would get the use out of it.
Also it could take 3-4 weeks before it gets installed, he dosen't really need it...
Well I saw my consultant yesterday for the results of my scan and was pleasantly surprised that nothing has really changed from the last one. There is a small mass (1.5 cm) low in the pelvis and an enlarged lymph node in the same area that is a matter of millimetres.....and that is it! I have no pain or other symptoms, apart from the muscle pain in my legs from the Taxol. He felt my tummy, shoulders and neck, pushed all the way down my back, listened to my chest and pronounced everything normal....
doing abseil in 12 days time scared of heights must be mad its something like 178 feet high in old money hope i can raise loads of cash for macmillan it will be worth it then
3rd dose of octreotide today. Last 8 weeks have shot by. CT scan in a couple of weeks to see how it is working. It has certainly done something .... even if only to extend the hand of hope. Whilst I accept my lot as a 1 in 3 with some (twisted) amusement (ok, thymoma is not so much of a rib-tickler any more but I'm sure there is some new material out there ...!), there is no way I could handle things without those life savers in Addenbrookes and Papworth. They are truly stars. Richard.
We've had good news. It seems my dads kidney cancer isn't back. But the pain he's been getting in his hips isn't good news. We thought it was arthritis and that he would need a hip op but the scan was clear. There was no wear and tear on his hip. The consultant thinks its bone cancer. He has to go for a blood test tomorrow.
I feel numb and don't know what to think at the moment. My mum is distraught. I'm trying to reassure her that we don't know for definite but it's hard. I guess...
