My situation with this disease consisted of a primary cancer in a tonsil and 3 secondaries in neck lymph nodes. The tonsil was removed surgically and the lymph nodes treated with chemo and radiotherapies.

My dad had an operation to remove the tumour today. It was more severe than they thought from the xrays, and he has had to have his Colon and small bowel removed. He has also been given a temporary stoma and will need to have surgery again in about 6 months.
He is in intensive care this evening, though they are concerned about his breathing.
The last few days before his surgery he was getting really bad, he fell backwards a couple of times and started to get muddled and forget things. Hopefully...

My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in June last year - there were no options for treatment, it is in both lungs and the tubes to the lungs and lymph nodes in the cest. Similar story where he had been going to the doctors for 2 years complaining of shortness of breath and a persistent cough - 2 years down the line they agree to an xray, then a second xray and then the devastating news. Many of the longer serving members of the community will remember Opticalboy and his very graphic blog about melanoma, and the problems that he had healing after surgery.
It brings me great sorrow to have to tell you that Peter died suddenly this morning, after discovering that his melanoma has metastasised shortly before Christmas.
