Hi, I was diagnosed with melanoma in may 2013. In July 2013 I had a wide excision & I've been all clear so far. but for 8 weeks I've had intermittent daily headaches which are not specifically in the same place in my head, the pain seems to move & change position all over my head. On Friday 21 March, met up with Doctor Kumar at UCLH who is conducting research on the muscles of the rectum in different situations. My contribution is 'before' and 'after' radiotherapy. My R/T starts on Wednesday 26 March, so this was the 'before' stage.

Thank you to all you kind people who sent me messages of support while I was in hospital. Sorry I didn't reply but it was such a pain trying to type on my tiny phone and I really didn't have the energy anyway. I came out yesterday, still feeling as weak as a kitten, unable to breathe deeply and with a neutrophil level of 1.2 (normal is >2 and neutropenia is <1). I took my wife into hospital this morning for her operation, -hip replacement. No news yet but I will telephone the ward, shortly, to find if she is out of theatre and recovering normally. Since returning home have done some useful work in the garden and some tidying up in the house. Papers sorted, put away or binned.
I continue to feel very well but I would like a good night's sleep tonight as I will not be disturbed except by my own bladder and I hope not too often by that. Ibuprofen for aches...
On 6 March, had my scan and 2nd pre RT planning meeting at UCLH. A 10.30 appointment, and I was seen within 10 minutes. A young lady nursing assistant asked me if I’d done my ‘bowel prep’. I hadn’t but had a couple of micro enemas to hand. Ten minutes later, I was good to go and then went, emptying my rectum. Having tidied me up, the next stage was having my photo taken, presumably so I could be identified easily. Curiously, no one wanted to look at my carefully recorded notes on my home practice...
