    Running after breast cancer

Only recently finished chemo and rads (still having herceptin), and got some further surgery but running the London marathon on 17th April.

Found out that I got a place to run for Macmillan at the end of last week and have managed to grind out my longest run of 6 (slow) miles so far (so only 20 to go!). Eek!!

8 miles planned for my 'long' run this week and feeling good. On a superficial level, really hoping my hair will be long enough by the marathon to feel comfortable running without a hat...

Scans Reviewed - Outcome not as expected!

Well we reviewed my husbands scans yesterday after 2 year ritux maintenance therapy and the tumour in his abdomen had gone! but a new one around his right kidney had appeared!!! whats that all about?????? Nobody knows what to do about this and the Doctor is going to discuss these findings at a case meeting next week to pull other doctors brains.  This is all a bit unnerving to me someone taking control would be nice.

    Starting chemo tomorrow

No sooner have you recovered from one phase of treatment then you get started on the next. I've been back at work for a week and a day - all healed up from surgery although still a bit stiff from time to time - and now who knows what it will be like from tomorrow.

The planned chemo is for me to have two drugs: oxaliplatin and capecitibine, in 8x three-week cycles. The oxaliplatin is given intravenously over a couple of hours in the clinic (in Northampton), and the capecitibine is in tablet form...

    Frustrating or what?

Why cant banks and other people when you need help just give you a straight answer instead of fobbing you off with sorry I cant help but phone this number they'll sort you out. Why is it so difficult for someone struggling because of a cancer diagnoses to get any help? Cancer doesn't just affect the person in question but the whole family, my duaghter used to go ice skating with her dad on Saturday mornings whilst I am at work but since his diagnosis he obviously hasn't been able to do this, its...

  • Hello. An introduction.
    The beginning

    Hello everyone.

I am just starting on this "Blog" journey and I don't even know if I am doing it right! (Probably not - appologies if I am wrong).

Back in August 2010 my husband (Dave) was diagnosed with a brian tumour. It was the day before we were due to go on our annual holiday with our 3 children (14, 9, 5).

On advice from our brain surgeon we went away but it was the longest 2 weeks of my life.

When we returned Dave had a biopsy (that didn't work) and then another one 2 weeks...

    The end is in sight!!

Dare I say things seem to be going well!  Rich is coming up to his last chemo at the local hospital and has so far managed to have them all on schedule.  His bloods have recovered well inbetween treatments and I am sure his positivity and relaxed attitude has helped with this.
When we chatted to the Dr on Monday we discussed the Intrathecal (spinal) chemo and up till now we assumed that it would be just the one but he has told us that it will be 4 treatments, each a week apart.  This fills me with absolute...

23/1 Symptoms continuing to concern me

    Hi all,

Having seen my GP last Tuesday I have finally got my urgent referral to a gynaecological consultant. GP agrees my symptoms more than warrant this. I am now hoping to see someone within 2 weeks  so fingers crossed.

My symptoms are really worrying me - I still have UTI symptoms despite finishing the course of antibiotics. That's two infections treated with quick recurrence. Also, I am now experiencing increasing pain in my lower back, more nausea and less ability to eat without feeling ill...
