    4 Feb Operation

    Hi all,

I spoke to the doctor today and it seems like they are still going to to the lymphectomy and examination under anaesthetic (EUA) on the 4th.

It seems the second opinion didn't pass muster at the multi-disciplinary meeting, and it is still being treated as invasive cancer. Boo Hisss... is all I can say.

Anyway, I got a full run-down of this operation last week at the Marsden. It will be robotic and laproscopic. Which means it will be done using a remote controlled machine, and via small...

  • Vulva Cancer Melanoma- my story so far
    Jan 28th - moving along

It's 9 days now since the op and the stitches seem to have settled down; the gel stuff they put over them is still in place but some stitches poke through so I've been going commando since I stopped using gauze pads and needing knickers to hold it in place.

I've an appointment with the surgery nurse to remove the stitches this Friday, and a confirmed outpatient appointment with the surgeon for Feb 6th so I guess he will have got the histology results by then.  There's a 'gone' feeling...

  • Why I am here
    Ongoing Treatment

68 year old maleGBM4, right temporal lesion.

I am just coming to the end of the first of the follow on chemo treatments, ie 5 days tablets, 25 days off. I collect the next round of tablets on Thursday and also having the first MRI scan to see how things are going on inside my head.

The one affect of the chemo and radiology that had not been mentioned anywhere was the generation of gas in my stomach. This cause extensive belching and passing wind. At times my stomach becomes very bloated and...

    Thanks for the comments!

I do greatly appreciate the effort it takes to comment! Not sure why they make it so hard... but it seems the joy of achieving it is working for you all. :)

Good news today! We have 9 little embryos in the freezer. We didn't get a quality report as it's quite early to freeze them, but they do as we aren't trying to select the best one for a fresh cycle. Apparently the embryos are more stable at 1 day, so we will take our gambles if/when we get to defrost them.

    Tonight I have celebrated...

  • Survivor - How to Find Love After Breast Cancer
How to find companionship/love after a double mastectomy (no reconstructions) - just scars.

Asking for ideas/recommendations/comments on how to find a special someone (missing hugs/cuddles) after surviving a double mastectomy with no reconstructions - messages from those who have managed it would be appreciated - still trying dating sites but feel awkward / rejected - thank you.

  • My Journey With Skin Cancer
Not ready for home care to stop.

So part of doing self-injections at home was having a home care nurse come the first few times to teach me how to do it myself... I can now give the shots myself but I'm really not ready for the nurse to stop coming!! Even though I CAN do the shots myself, I'm worried about if I can do it  when the nurse isn't there.. There is something comforting about knowing if I can't do it for some reason the nurse is right there ready to help me out.  I still hate needles and the thought of giving...

    Quick Update

EC day today. Things went fine, and we will find out tomorrow the results.

Few minor issues at the hospital, like missing blood tests, missing my vein with the sedative, but otherwise ok.

Got out after 2 (arrived at 7!) so pretty tired this afternoon. Things went well, but I feel a bit flat after all the excitement.

I missed one test with my list on the last post. They also did a nasal swab which actually came back positive for a Staph infection. Nothing serious, but it has to be cleared before...

  • Brain tumours - treatment options?
    Brain tumours recurring
Hi there, We are looking for some advice and wondered if anyone has had any similar experiences and treatment options. My mum is suffering from brain tumours which are secondary tumours. She's just had 4th tumour removed but they keep returning as tiny cells are left behind. She has another tumour they were unable to remove so she had gamma knife. We would like her to have gamma knife in the whole where the 4 tumours have been removed to hopefully stop them growing. Her surgeon has said because...

  • radiotherapy and it's side effects
    taste buds

My situation with this disease consisted of a primary cancer in a tonsil and 3 secondaries in neck lymph nodes. The tonsil was removed surgically and the lymph nodes treated with chemo and radiotherapies.

The radiotherapy sessions, of which there were 35, following weeks of chemo, ended early in November 2012. That is now almost 3 months ago. Many of you will know how radiotherapy kills the saliva glands after 3 weeks of treatment and how, in their death throes, they produce copious amounts of...
