I'M GETTING MY FIRST BED IN YEARS

My bed is arriving on Wednesday. It will be strange. I haven't had a bed for years. In fact I'm trying to remember when I last had one. I suffered for many years from depression, anxiety and PTSD which resulted in a very unstable life. On the cheaper end of private accommodation, I had to move often. I never had the money for a bed. I sleep on the floor on a thin memory foam mattress at the moment. I didn't mind because I have a bad back and the floor was better for it than an old secondhand bed...

    Friendship

I've often contemplated what friendship is and what it means to me, as a child I lived a fairly insular life, my parents never had their friends to the house and I never had friends over to play, we were encouraged to join clubs and after school activities but the people I met were never welcome in the family home, and yet my mum in her younger years seemed to be rather a social butterfly, she maintained a relationship with those she met at university for 60 years but only by letter, since her passing...

    Chemo 2 - 200917

Turned up at the hospital at 9am for my second chemo session.  Unfortunately, my leucocytes were too low so they couldn't do it. I got an injection to help increase them and I have to inject myself Thursday and Friday.  Have to go back on Monday so, hopefully, it will be alright then. Feeling quite disappointed. Who'd have thought they'd ever be disappointed about not having a chemo session?  How strange life is.

  • My eyelid skin cancer journey.
    Lucky first review since operation.

    I saw the Specialist Nurse.

    • She checked my eyesight which has remained unchanged. As I haven't had an eyelid reconstruction, I can get glasses made up to my new prescription any time I want at my opticians. (My optician had warned me that eyelid surgery might change my prescription and take a while to settle and recommended prior to surgery that I delay getting my new prescription, which is only slightly different, made up.)
    • The nurse confirmed that my eyelid has healed up really...

    TWO WEEKS UNTIL OPERATION

So, my op is two weeks tomorrow, as far as I know. I have started my deep breathing exercises. Breathe in for three, hold for three, breathe out for six or more, repeat ten times. I have set my phone to go off every hour from 9am to 9pm so I don't forget. The exercises are to improve breathing for the op.

I've decided to totally spring clean do I won't need to worry when I first come out of hospital. My partner is doing the decorating. I've got a bed on order which should arrive In the...

    Practicalities

I have always approached things in practical and pragmatic manner, so for me cancer is no different, with the added need of surgery it was time to ensure all my affairs were in order.

First and foremost was to ensure that my daughters had adequate provision upon my death, I had a Will but having remarried it was no longer valid, I needed to be sure that the home we all live in remained theirs, but that my husband still had a place to live. We sat down as a family and had a fairly lengthy discussion...

    Mum 76, primary brain tumour

My lovely 76 year old Mum has been diagnosed with 'Advanced malignant butterfly glioma' on 10th August 2017. Her only symptoms were tiredness, a little confusion and short term memory loss. Mum was originally diagnosed with low sodium and treated with sodium drips. After 2 weeks MRI scan revealed tumour in brain. We were told this could not be operated on because of Mums age and position of tumour (both lobes of brain) grade 4. This has devastated our family as Mum was otherwise fit and well and...

YOUR CREDITORS CAN BE YOUR FRIEND

Why you should keep in touch with creditors. I am paying off some old debts from when I was ill a few years ago. I have four with one debt collector, each at twenty pounds a month, £80 per month in all. With this bladder cancer thing I have had to miss the odd payment due to hospital travel expenses. I emailed them last week explaining why. They got back to me yesterday and said that they are suspending my payments for three months to give me breathing space then will arrange a more affordable payment...

DO THEY REALISE HOW MUCH IT UPSETS ONE?

I've been really upset over the op appointments. When I first rang I was told the op wouldn't be until mid October, 19th. I was worried because it seemed a long time. Then I was told I was pencilled in for the 22nd of this month, leaving only ten days to get ready. It was a shock but I got my head around it after a few days. Then, with less than a week to go I'm told it can't be done and so I'm booked in for 7th October. If the pencilled in one had not been mentioned I would have been pleased that...
