  • "To do or not to do.... Uni after Treatment
    Ambivalent

    Hi

I have completed all treatment for Breast cancer and is in my recuperative phase. I had to interrupt studies due to effects of the treatment. Now, I am not sure any more, whether resuming studies 7 months post may affect me recovery.

I would like to know if any one has had  similar experience and how was it for you?

I know  that final decision is an  individual process but I believe your support would help me to view this from different perspective.

    After treatment questions

I often hear from others about what’s next? In this whole cancer nightmare you get so consumed in everything. You obviously have different stages of the whole thing, diagnosis, treatment or treatments and what next?

I feel in my life very much in a physical dilemma, as a normal act individual having cancer has really effected my whole life, and I haven’t really come to terms with the whole thing, I am still hoping that it’s all a very bad dream and eventually I will wake from it and find that...

  • METASTATIC BOWEL CANCER
    Metastic Bowel Cancer

l was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer on February 2017, several scans showed spread to liver, two very small tumours in my lung, small tumour in my arm and in my spine.  Was told l was inoperable.  l had  (5FU) it did not work, was then put on Oxiplatin, scan has showed that the tumour in bowel has shrunk and tumours on liver have also shrunk.  l've read other blogs and people are being operated on ? Any advice would be appreciated.

Why its important to have support

My Mum moved in with myself and my family last year because she was no longer happy living alone.  A few months after moving in she discussed the fact she had a lump in her breast with my wife.  My wife said she should see her GP and we were soon at the breast clinic getting checks.

They discovered a lump in her breast and in a lymph node.  I have know of people with cancer but it had never struck so close to home and as I sat with the experts talking about what happens next I realised I was having...

Active treatment finished....hot flushes continue...mental recovery starts

    Hi everyone,

Sorry, I haven't posted on here for a while.

I finished active treatment for breast cancer on 7/8/17 and am now on Tamoxifen for 5/10 years.

Sadly cancer treatment has left me infertile and with menopausal symptoms (I had chemotherapy and radiotherapy).  I have a 10 year old son but he's sadly now not going to get a brother or sister.  We brought our lovely English Springer Spaniel puppy instead (Hugo) who is now 12 weeks :-).

There are lots of positives to come out of cancer treatment...

  • WHEN I'M 64...
FOUR DAYS AFTER OPERATION AND I'M GOING HOME

I'm going home today. Only four days. Doc thinks my recovery so far is amazing. I have to say that improving my diet and getting lots of exercise by walking 3-5 miles a day was worth it. My surgeon said it's amazing how fit I am considering. Even the nurse said my veins were the best ones she's seen all week. I have to come back in a week or so to have the staples and stents out. I changed my bag today, had a shower and have finally been disconnected from all the tubes. I'm mobile, only just, but...

    post op recovery

its a bit of a silly question in many ways but one thing that keeps coming up is how long does it take to recover from cancer surgery, well first it depends on the surgery you have had. A hysterectomy like I had is a major operation and I should of known better that it takes time to heal. I definitely feel the fatigue is worse because it frustrates me all the time. I think I am getting better, more back to normal them wham. I am totally exhausted and cant understand why. I keep making the mistake...

  • WHEN I'M 64...
    OPERATION OVER

I had my operation yesterday - cystectomy, hysterectomy and some bits and bobs done. I'm doing well, the doctor is pleased. The operation only took three hours and I didn't need to go to intensive care because the doctor said I'm very fit apart from the cancer. I look better than I expected too. I got up for two hours today. I was on oxygen and a drip til a bit earlier when they were taken out. Dean, my partner, came over for the afternoon. Stiggy, my dog, is missing me and I him. One of my wounds...

    Coping with a cancer diagnosis

I read many posts from different people with different types of cancer, but the one common thing I hear a lot is the warmth from others who are equally going though a rough time yet they are prepared to share their experience and knowledge.

I didn’t react to being diagnosed with womb cancer in any way I expected. I just sat there pretty much indifferent, just like I had been told something trivial. I think it took along while before it all sank in what was wrong with me. I never had children and...
